Monthly Archives: March 2017

Happy Spring Break!

Batman visited us today at our March is Reading Month assembly and he was very proud of all the reading that Howard students did over the last few weeks!  We surpassed our school goal with 236,000 minutes for the month!  Thanks to Ani’s mom for being our last guest reader of the month!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to be a chaperone for our trip to the Dearborn Historical Museum. Chaperones for our field trip were randomly chosen today:  Jude’s Dad, JJ’s Dad, and Zora’s Mom.

Have a super spring break 🙂

pics :)

I have fallen behind on my picture posting, lol…SORRY!  Here are a few of our most recent guest readers (huge thanks to them), the day we made brookies (so thankful Logan’s Grammy helped us with that), and even one from the evening performance of our spring concert!!

Also, just a teeny reminder that field trip permission slips are due by Friday!

Updates and Reminders…

  • Super big thanks to Sophia’s Mom, JJ’s Dad, Chase’s Mom, and Officer Hanson for coming in and reading to us!

  • Don’t forget reading minutes are due tomorrow 🙂

  • Next week is spirit week.  Here is the note showing the theme for each day in case you missed it:  spirit week 2017

We love readers!!

Check out who popped in to read to us 🙂 We were visited by Emily’s Dad, Logan’s Grammy, and Michael’s Mom.  Thanks so much!

Important Running Club Announcement

(From the PTA)

Due to overwhelming response and lack of volunteers, we have to revise our running club schedule.

Beginning tomorrow (Thursday), we will split the runners into groups.

Tuesdays: Kindergarten-2nd gr.

Thursdays: 3rd-5th gr.

Students may only come on their designated day, and siblings are not allowed to wait unsupervised. Since the weather has been cold and windy we have had to have the children practice indoors, and the hallways become overcrowded with over 130 students participating.  Please understand that we are making this change to keep practices more productive and focused and for the safety of all of the runners.

We are hoping that April’s weather forecast will be more favorable for running outside.  Coach Julie and the PTA will notify everyone when all classes will be able to participate on both days again.

Please note:  Tomorrow’s (Thursday) running club practice will be for 3rd-5th grade only.

Guest Readers (and more…)

  • We had a few more SUPER readers visit us in the last 2 days.  Thanks so much to Luca’s Aunt Leslie, Zora’s Mom, and our own Mr. Blessing for taking the time to come and read to us.  We LOVED having you!!
  • Tomorrow morning is a late start.  School begins at 9:35 a.m.
  • Last week we had a total of over 4,000 reading minutes!!  That was second place in the whole school!  Keep reading 🙂  Reading minutes are due on Friday.  We had a few students who didn’t turn in any minutes last week.  I am hoping for 100% participation this week.  If you need another form, please print it here: weekly minutes.

Updates for Friday

  • If you had a “super animal fact” ready to go for today, please go ahead and stick it in your pocket for Friday.  Teachers will be ready to trade them for some SUPER erasers 🙂
  • Reading minutes are due tomorrow.  Make sure there is a name on it, the minutes are added up for a total, and a parent has signed it.
  • Please plan on bringing library books back to school tomorrow.  I will try really hard to get us squeezed into the check-out schedule.
  • Social studies test is still tomorrow.

YAY!!!

We were so excited to welcome our first guest reader for the month of March!!  Thanks so much to Juliana’s mom for stopping by and sharing a story with us 🙂

If you haven’t signed up yet, we hope you will!  The form was attached to the March is Reading Month packet that came home, or you can find it here: SUPER reader invitation.

Reading is our Superpower!!

Today everyone brought home their packet of information for reading month.  Please read through it carefully.  A few of the highlights:

  • The items on the calendar are suggestions.  You do not have to do them all.  I do encourage you to participate in at least a few of the activities and especially on Thursdays with a “super fact in your pocket” day.  I am also really excited for superhero socks day and superhero t-shirt day.
  • Students should start counting and recording their number of reading minutes on Friday of this week.  Every day they read, they should write the number of minutes down on “Week 1” of the recording sheet.  On March 9th, they should total all their minutes, get it signed by a parent, and then cut off “week 1” and bring it in on Friday, March 10th.  They will repeat this each week.  Students who read at 120 minutes (or more) each week get a sticker to put on the bulletin board outside our room.
  • The last page in the packet is an invitation for parents or other family members to come and be SUPER readers in our classroom.  We LOVE to have guest readers!!!! Please make sure you give me a few choices of times that will work for you so I can find one that works in our daily schedule.

If you didn’t see the packet today, here is your weekly minutes page and SUPER reader invitation.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to send me a note or email.
