Monthly Archives: December 2015

party :)

Thank you so much to everyone who donated items and/or their time for today to be a success!!  We enjoyed a yummy snack, decorated cookies, and started our craft. We even had the band students serenade us this morning!! Tomorrow the fun will continue (lucky us!!) since we still need to finish our penguins and do the book exchange.  We also have some wrapping to do (we’ve been working hard on a surprise) and the sing along is at 2:00 p.m. 🙂

Here are just a few pictures from today:

Tomorrow

This is just a friendly reminder that our holiday party is tomorrow afternoon at 2:00.  If you are bringing food items to the office to drop off, please make sure they say “Turk” on them.

I encourage everyone to send in a wrapped book so that your child can participate in the exchange – they have a great time 🙂

You are more than welcome to pop in and hang out with us during the party, but don’t worry if you can’t since I will post plenty of pictures!!

There is a bake sale tomorrow at lunch.  Each item is $.25

Our math test is tomorrow morning!  We reviewed today in class.  # 4 and #’s 11-14 seem the most tricky.  I shared the review last Friday, but here is the review with the problems done using the strategies we have been working on.  Many problems are shown done in more than one way. Review-with-examples

This week…

This is sure to be a busy week for everyone!

  • No spelling this week
  • Wednesday:  Late Start!
  • Thursday:  Holiday party – If you haven’t already, please send in your $2 to cover the cost of the craft.  Also, don’t forget your wrapped book for the exchange.
  • Friday:  Sing along and Children with Hair Loss event in the gym at 2:00 p.m.
  • Since it rained all day today, please have your child wear their boots for the next few days.  Make sure they also have regular shoes to wear in the classroom.

We’ve been Elfed!

The Elf on a Shelf visited us today after lunch.  She gave us all of our brownie points, flipped everyone’s card to superhero, and left smarties on our desks.  We were super excited 🙂  We even did our “awesome” cheer for the elf!!

In other news (but maybe not as exciting)…

  • Our science test is Monday.  The study guide came home and was posted to the blog on Tuesday.  If you missed it, here it is again.  Water study guide   Today we played Jeopardy as a review for Monday.  Please feel free to play this at home as another way to review 🙂  Jeopardy water
  • Just to give you time, we also have a math test coming up on Wednesday or Thursday.  Here is a review for that, as well.  Math Unit 4 review
  • Don’t forget the lock-in is tonight.  Check-in begins at 5:30.
  • Our holiday party is next Thursday afternoon.  We will probably start around 2:00 p.m.  Each student is encouraged to bring in a NEW, wrapped book to exchange with the rest of the class.  Chapter books are very popular, but it can be anything that is around a 2nd grade reading and interest level.  I am sure if you let your child pick it out, they know what their classmates like to read.  Students will not get to choose who they give their book to, we will play a game that allows each child a chance to choose a gift from the table.
  • Friday afternoon is our school sing-along.  The organization Children with Hair Loss will be here again.  Any adult or child with at least 8 inches of hair to donate is encouraged to participate for this great cause.  The hair will be donated and used to make wigs for sick children – free of charge to their families.  If you, your child, or a family member or friend, would like to participate, please let me know so I can forward you all of the information.
  • Howard is also collecting new mittens for the Mitten Tree in the hallway.  If you are out and don’t mind picking up a pair of mittens or gloves, it would be great!

Updates :)

  • We had an awesome time shopping at the boutique today!  A huge thank-you to our 2 parents that came in and helped everyone wrap.  It was a big job!!
  • Math homework tonight.
  • A study guide for science came home today on bright green paper.  Our test will be next Monday.  I have also uploaded it here:  Water study guide
  • The Howard PTA is having a lock-in on this Friday, December 11th.  Check-in starts at 5:30, doors lock at 6:00 and will reopen at 9:30 p.m.  I forgot to send the note home today, so I wanted to give you the basic details.  I will send the note home with more information tomorrow.

Mud!

  • It may be a good idea to send your child to school in boots and have them bring extra shoes in their backpack even without snow.  We seem to be picking up a lot of mud and bringing it into the classroom.
  • Holiday Boutique is coming next week.  This is so much fun 🙂  The kids get so much joy out of being able to choose gifts for their family!  We are shopping on Tuesday so envelopes are due back by then.  Please make sure you mark the envelope with the names of the people your child will be shopping for (if it’s a brother or sister, please write their age also) and tuck the money inside.
  • If you can help…we need donations of wrapping paper, scotch tape, and gift tags!!  This way we can wrap our holiday boutique gifts before they come home 🙂  I also need 2 parents to come in Tuesday afternoon after lunch and help kids wrap.  If you are interested in helping us wrap, please comment on this post.
