Today was the first day of school. I was very excited to meet each of my new students and I want to take some time this week to get to know them better. Today I gave them the opportunity to get to know me by showing this video during class.
Today was the first day of school. I was very excited to meet each of my new students and I want to take some time this week to get to know them better. Today I gave them the opportunity to get to know me by showing this video during class.
I hope everyone has a wonderful summer. Please take time to read some engaging books, get some practice on Moby Max, and have fun adventures!
I will see you all in September!
In Language Arts today and tomorrow the students will be working on a reflection of their progress in terms of comprehension, vocabulary, and writing. This will be done using the portfolios that I have kept for them this year. All of these materials will go home with the students tomorrow as a reminder of the progress they have made and strategies they can use over the summer to help prepare them for seventh grade.
Wednesday will be our trip to Levagood. The students will being the school day as normal and head over to the pool in the later part of the morning. The students in my class will be going with an eighth grade teacher or one of the other teachers on our team because I will be attending the Cedar Point trip with the eighth graders.
At this point, I have grades completely up to date. They will not be changing much from this point forward. I am going to be giving formative points for the completion of the reflection but that should not affect grades too much.
I hope everyone enjoys this last week of school!
For the past two days the students have been working on the end of the year assessments. We first focused on vocabulary and we are now working on comprehension. We will finish these during class today and begin working on our portfolio reflection.
All late work is due today. The vocabulary book Lesson Ten is also due along with the last reading log. I will do my best to have grades as up to date as possible. My goal is to have grading completely done and submitted by the end of the day on Monday.
Happy last Friday of school and have a great weekend!

Once again, we are MSTEP testing this week in Sixth Grade Language Arts. I will not be posting to the blog this week with the exception of today. Testing will take place on Wednesday, May 27th and Thursday, May 28th. The students will have their regularly scheduled classes in the afternoon. This time will be allotted for finishing touches on their presentations and to practice presenting to their classmates.
Today the students were given their final class period to work on their Folktale projects. Their presentations will take place this Friday, May 29th. All teams should have their powerpoints and scrapbook pages ready at this time.
In addition to working on the projects in class, the students were given time to work in their vocabulary books. Lesson Ten must be completed by Friday, June 5th. Once students request to have their vocabulary books graded, I will be collecting them for the summer. Their Seventh Grade Language Arts teachers will send them back to me in September to retrieve the books for Seventh Grade. The same thing will happen with the interactive notebooks when I check them on Tuesday, June 2nd. If your child has lost his/her book or decided to purchase one for Seventh Grade, I will be collecting $13 until Friday, June 5th and setting books aside for them for Seventh Grade. If students decide to purchase after this date, they will be responsible for speaking with their new Language Arts teacher in September.
All books rented out from the library are now being collected. The students were given time during Language Arts today to return their borrowed books to the library. They were also given the opportunity to ask Ms. Lindsey if they have any other missing books. All books must be returned by Tuesday, June 9th in order to go to the pool party. If students still have missing books or unpaid fines, they will be ineligible to attend this trip. All of my books are due Wednesday, June 1st. If books have been lost, the students will also have unpaid fines for my class.
Have a wonderful week! We are in the home stretch!

This week in Language Arts is going to be different from what we have done in the past. I am going to make one point for this week due to the uniqueness of it. Today in class, the students were given the pre-lesson for the MSTEP. Tomorrow and Wednesday the students will be MSTEP testing. If testing is finished early, the students will be given time to read their good fit books. They will go to their core classes in the afternoons. During this time, we will be working on our folktale projects which will be presented next Friday in class.
Thursday will be our school talent show. All sixth grade students will see the show in the morning and we will be doing a team building activity in the afternoon. I will not be checking the blog this week due to the events taking place. If you need to contact me, please use my email address given on the syllabus.
Have a great week!

The students were given time to practice this writing in my class. I met with each student individually to edit the writing.
