Today in Language Arts the students spent time reading their good fit book. At this point, all students have taken the reading NWEA. They should be utilizing their new lexile scores when thinking about books that are a good fit for them. Remember, the books in my classroom are organized by sticker color and each lexile range represents a different color. At this point, I have conferenced with all students so everyone should be aware of their sticker color and lexile range.

After SSR, the students were given time to organize their logs for the month of January. I will be collecting these for a grade on Monday.

The students also turned in their figurative language project and their narrative essay. The essays will take me quite a while to grade so please be patient with the grading as I work on them.

With the remainder of class time students were given the opportunity to present their figurative language projects to the class. Presenting was optional but students who did present will receive two points of extra credit on their assignment for sharing with the class.

Test retakes for the Figurative Language Test will take place next Wednesday during lunch. Unfortunately, I do not have any availability before or after school next week so I can only offer a lunch retake. Any student who wants to retake the test cannot have any missing assignments from 3rd Marking Period. They must also sign up in class before next Wednesday to be eligible for the retake. Lastly, the must look at every question they got wrong, write what the correct answer was, and explain why they got the question wrong. This includes the written and iLearn portions of the test. These test corrections must be signed by a parent or guardian and brought to the retake. Any student who does follow these directions will not be able to retake the test next Wednesday and an alternate retake date will not be scheduled.

Have a great weekend!
