I cannot believe we are at the end of September already!  In Language Arts today the students spent time learning about their reading expectations.  All students are expected to read at home for 60 minutes each week.  How they choose to break up their reading is up to them.  They are expected to read two books per marking period.  The works out to roughly one book every four and a half weeks.  Then, they need to create a one-pager.  This is a response to their reading.  The requirements for the one-pager have been posted to this blog post and sent home with students today.

The students also spent time exploring NewsELA which is a website we will use to analyze informational texts at our reading level. We will begin doing this next week.

Lastly, the students spent time in class practicing read to self.

Have a great weekend!

In Language Arts today the students participated in an activity where we explored the books within our classroom.  The students were given a choice between six books to analyze using the iPick Strategy.  When they were done analyzing, they shared what the book is about with the other people in their group.  Any student interested in one of the books was encouraged to add it to their Book Wish List in their interactive notebook.

The students also practiced read to self during  class and began thinking about a goal they may have for themselves in Language Arts.

Have a great evening!

In Language Arts today the students set up their ePortfolios.  This is something that can be accessed from home too!  I encourage families to ask their students to share the ePortfolios with their families.  You will find personal and academic goals for the year as well as data about the student.  The portfolios have been set to middle names only for the sake of privacy.

GREAT NEWS! We have officially finished testing in Language Arts!  The students will begin building a regular Language Arts classroom routine starting tomorrow.  I will have grades updated by Friday with the exception of the District Writing Prompt.  I have 97 students this year and it takes me roughly ten minutes to grade each students’ paper.  I am grading them as fast as I can.  Thank you for your patience!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!
