Today in Language Arts the students spent time reflecting on everything we have learned about writing this year. We spent time looking at sample writing from the MSTEP and evaluating them based on what we know about writing.

Remember, permission slips and money for the field trip are due tomorrow.  We cannot accept money late. Any student who does not turn in their money tomorrow will not be eligible to go on the field trip. If students plan on staying at school that day, we still need a permission slip that is signed by a parent or guardian stating that the child will not be attending the field trip.

Have a great evening!

In Language Arts today and yesterday the students spent time finishing the rough draft for the Character Analysis Essay and peer editing it.  The final draft of the essay is due on Friday. They were given time in class today to type it and they will be given more time in class tomorrow.

Tomorrow we will be watching The Prince and the Pauper the movie with Cole and Dylan Sprouse from The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and The Sweet Life on Deck.  It is a modernized version of the play we have been learning about in class.  While watching, the students will be responsible for comparing and contrasting the movie to the play.

The novel we will be reading in Language Arts this year is The Giver. We will be starting this novel in a few weeks.  There are school copies available for students to borrow but the students are more than welcome to bring their own copy too.  This way, they can take notes while they read. I will be placing a class order on Monday for students who would like to have their own copy.  It costs $8 and this information was sent home with students yesterday.  I have attached the note that was sent home to this blog post.

The students were also given the directions for One-Pagers 7 and 8 today.  These are due on Friday, June 8th. Initially, they were due on Thursday, June 14th but the teachers must turn in report cards that day and I cannot get all of those assignments graded in three hours. I have attached the directions for these assignments to this blog post. The students have also been given permission for them to use The Giver for One-Pager 8. They are not expected to read two books at the same time but they can if they want to.

We then looked over our Character Analysis CER from “The Prince and the Pauper” that we wrote before break.  We used this information to write our first body paragraph for our Character Analysis Essay.  If the students did not finish this paragraph in class, it was assigned as homework. This will be the last essay we write for the school year!

The students also spent time in class learning the Greek and Latin Root, “dict”.

Now that all of the papers with no name have been determined, I will start working on grades for the new marking period.

Have a great evening!
