In Language Arts today the students spent time taking their Folktale Test. I will do my best to have grades updated by the end of the week reflecting their scores from the test as well as their presentations.

The students also began reading The Giver today.  If students did not finish reading chapter one in class, it is homework.  For most of this unit, the students will be working in small groups to complete daily tasks.  Groups who do not finish will need to complete the remaining tasks at home.  I will post their tasks on the blog so they know what needs to be completed.  Today we did not meet in groups since we are just beginning to introduce the novel.

Have a great evening!

In Language Arts today the students were introduced to The Giver.  We completed an anticipation guide and participated in a book strips activity where the students were given two to three sentences from The Giver to read to their classmates.  Based on the activities we did in class today, the students predicted what they thought the book was going to be about.  We will begin reading the book in class on Monday.  We will spend the rest of the school year focusing on analyzing this novel and using it as our class textbook.

Have a great weekend!

In Language Arts today the students spent time presenting their folktale projects.  We had a shorter class period due to M-STEP testing that was taking place.  This will continue to be our schedule for the next couple of days so I will not be posting to the blog.

Have a great evening and don’t forget, we will be going to the library tomorrow since we missed our scheduled day on Monday due to the field trip!

Today the students were able to experience ice skating on our field trip! The students and teachers had a lot of fun and I believe a lot of the students learned that ice skating is much harder than it looks! Any student who brought their own ice skates to the field trip was reimbursed $3.

Tomorrow we will be taking the Language Arts MSTEP in the morning.  We will be having class in the afternoon.  During Language Arts, the students will be presenting their Folktale Project.  No other time to work on these projects in class will be given since they have had a least 45 minutes for the past 6 school days to work on the project. All students need to make sure they are ready to present both their scrapbook page and their slides tomorrow.  Since we will be MSTEP testing for at least two days this week, we will spend most of our Language Arts time testing or presenting our projects.  I do hope to be able to start The Giver by Friday.

Since most of our week will be spent testing and presenting, I am NOT requiring students to work on Read Theory this week since we won’t have much time for Daily 5. All students will be allowed to read their good fit book when they are done testing and in order to stay on track, the students should be done with Good Fit Book #7 by the end of the weekend in order to focus solely on The Giver.

Have a great evening!

Homework:

  1. Finish the Folktale Project-Presentations TOMORROW
  2. Read Good Fit Book #7-Students should be done by NEXT Monday, May 7th

The students also participated in an activity where they read directions of various writing prompts and determined the type of writing that needed to take place.

Our field trip is on Monday!  We will be ice skating and playing kickball. The students have been encouraged to wear tennis shoes, socks, and dress appropriately for an ice skating rink. They also need to bring their own lunch with their name on it.  Students who bring their own ice skates will be reimbursed $3.00.

Have a great weekend!
