In Language Arts today the students spent time reviewing the charts they worked on yesterday in class. The students also spent time reading chapters 8 and 9 of The Giver. They were also given time to answer the guided questions for chapter 8. I have included the questions in this blog post for students who did not finish during class. The students will be taking their quiz on chapters 1 through 8 of The Giver on Monday. They will be allowed to use their novel to help them with the test but they will not be allowed to use their interactive notebooks. Their interactive notebooks can be used to study for this quiz.
We also spent time talking about the different between dystopia and utopia. We then discuss which category The Giver falls into. Then, the students were given the directions to the Utopia Project. With a partner of their choice, the students have been asked to create their own utopian world. They must come up with a name, flag, rules, consequences for when the rules are broken, as well as additional information of their choice. I have included the directions for this project to the blog post as well. They will also be given all of class tomorrow and work on it. The Utopia Project will be due on Monday.
