District Message:
“Greetings,
All Dearborn Public Schools will be closed for students effective immediately, March 13, 2020. This is a result of Governor Whitmer’s order to close all K-12 school buildings, public, private, and boarding, starting Monday, March 16 until Sunday, April 5.
Dearborn Public Schools spring break will take place from Monday, April 6 through Friday, April 10. Students will return to school on Monday, April 13, 2020.
Students may report on Friday, March 13, 2020 at the normal start time to only pick up their belongings and school supplies.
All staff should report on Friday, March 13, 2020 to assist students. Staff will only attend for the morning half of the day followed by a half day release time.
All staff should continue to check their email daily for updates and information.
As of Thursday, 3-12-2020 there are no reported or confirmed cases of COVID 19 in the Dearborn Public Schools.
This closure of schools is part of a nationwide effort to slow the spread of the COVID 19 virus. These actions will not eliminate the COVID 19 virus, cure COVID 19, and this will not guarantee that a person will not contract the COVID virus at a later time. Again, these actions are part of a nationwide effort to slow the spread and limit the number of people who will become infected.
Thank you”

The Mackinac Center for Public Policy is recognizing 19 Dearborn Public Schools for their outstanding performance on its recent report card. The Center’s report placed the schools in the top 100 for one of three performance comparisons when state test scores were adjusted for the number of low-income students in the building. We are proud to say that Geer Park is one of the schools recognized.
Geer Park Elementary ranked 44th, scoring in the 98.05 percentile, and was 17th for long-term performance.
The Mackinac Center for Public Policy is a nonpartisan research and educational institute which touts itself as dedicated to improving the quality of life for all Michigan residents.
“Parents and educators should be able to see more clearly what kind of impact their school has on student learning, rather than simply seeing results that are strongly linked to student poverty,” said Ben DeGrow, Mackinac Center’s director of education policy and co-author of the study. “Our Context and Performance Report Card adds another important dimension by going beyond raw test scores.”
Dr. Maleyko said, “While we know there is always more work to do, we take to heart our motto ‘Students First – Inspire, Educate, Celebrate.’ For most of our elementary and middle schools, this report is something to celebrate.”
See the Mackinac Center CAP report for more details.
Geer Park has received the D-Shines grant. As part of this grant our students will learn about nutrition and health. We are asking that parents complete a survey as part of our program. The survey is designed to gather physical activity and nutrition information as well as thoughts about the program from the community. This link to the survey is below. Thank you for participating.
