Packet Pickup for Students without Internet Access

Dear Viking Families,

O.L.Smith staff members have looked over the information provided from the Internet Access Survey and created packets for families who do not have access at home. These families can enter the school’s office doors to pick up their child’s packet on TUESDAY, MARCH 17th, 2020 from 9:00-11:00am. No one will be allowed to enter the school to pick up any other belongings. There will be a table set up right when you walk in to pick up the packet. Thank you for taking the time to help ensure learning is happening for all students at this time.

Retract Statement on pick up of supplies from Ms. Jebril

Greetings Vikings,

I want to recall a previous message regarding supply pick up. Under the direction of the Superintendent, which is based on the Governor’s directive – no parents or students are allowed in any district buildings until the shut down is over.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you for understanding that we are truly dealing with a very fluid situation.

Be well and stay safe!

Principal Jebril

School Update from Ms. Jebril

Greetings Vikings!

On March 12, 2020, Governor Whitmer issued the order to close all public schools in Michigan until April 3, 2020 (Due to spring break, Dearborn Public Schools will reopen to students on April 13, 2020).  With this order, we are all entering into uncharted waters as parents, students, teachers, and administrators. There are a lot of questions that surround how the rest of the school year play out with our upcoming field trips, school events, activities, grades, and tests. During this time, our district staff along with MDE are making decisions that will help to chart the direction we will be traveling as we learn more about the Coronavirus and our state and country’s efforts to mitigate its spread.

On Friday, our staff was able to create a plan for remote learning to help families prepare for the next few weeks. Our first step was for all advisory teachers to survey their students so that we are aware of anyone who doesn’t have access to computers/laptops at home. (Check the blog for community support for laptops and internet access.) Please make sure your child completed the survey sent to them by their advisory teacher. Teachers worked within their content level PLC teams to meet the needs of students by continuing to teach essential standards within their content areas. All teachers will be communicating with students via iblogs and emails. They have created online lessons via Google Classrooms and ilearn courses. Links to these platforms will be posted on their blogs. Please visit each teacher’s blog for daily updates and lessons. Please let your students know that this is not a vacation and that we will continue to work together on teaching and learning. Feel free to use the schedule I shared below to help establish a routine.

Any student who needs books or personal belongings from school will be able to pick them up on Monday or Tuesday 9-12pm. NO ONE WILL HAVE ACCESS TO THE BUILDING BEYOND TUESDAY – UNTIL STUDENTS START ON APRIL 13th. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS.

Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions you may have during this time. I know that by working together, even remotely, we will get past this together!

Praying for good health for all!

Principal Jebril
