Last Chance Chromebook Distribution

Greetings Vikings,

We will have another Chromebook distribution on Monday, April 27th from 10am-1pm. Chromebooks will be passed out to parents of students who are still in need of technology and who have contacted me or any staff member. We have been keeping a list.

If you are in need of a chromebook but haven’t contacted anyone, please email me at jebrilz@dearbornschools.org and I will make sure we have one for you.

ONLY parents can sign out a Chromebook – drive through style. More details will be provided.

Thank you for your patience.

Principal Jebril

Grade Level Remote Learning Weekly Calendars for 4/20/20 – 4/24/20 for Smith families

Per our newly approved Continuity of Learning Plan, “Students are expected to complete all assignments and participate in google hangouts. In addition, each teacher has office hours in which they will be available to answer questions and provide support. Teachers will provide students with one or more google hangout per week and will make themselves available during weekly office hours to answer any questions via email, phone calls, etc. (Teachers will publish office hours for students and parents to ensure they know to contact teachers for individual support and concerns.)”

Please use office hours to reach out to teachers as that is a time they will provide individualized support. During office hours, teachers will be at their computer responding to emails immediately — if you would like a phone call or a one-on-one Google meet, just request it.

8th Grade ELA

Due: Apr 24
The Outsiders Chapters 3 & 4 Week of April 20th to the 24th
Hello Families,

After receiving feedback from students last week, we learned that many of you liked one post for the week, as it helped you remain more organized! We also learned some of you were having a hard time navigating all of the links and figuring out which links were for which day. We are hearing your feedback and making adjustments as needed.

This week, we have created a PowerPoint with all of the links embedded into the PowerPoint by day. You can watch the directions video and then open the PowerPoint to locate each of the links. If clicking on them does not work, please highlight the link, copy it, and paste it into a web browser. You can find the PowerPoint and more detailed instructions on Google Classroom.

Please use the Help Desk Form (link found in PPT) or email us with questions or just to tell us your favorite part of the book!

We miss you all so dearly,
Ms. Timpf & Mrs. Schafer

8th Grade ELA Weekly Assignments for April 13th-April 17th

Hello My Dear Friends,

We are moving into our new unit, which is our novel unit. We will be reading “The Outsiders.” Our class structure will be very consistent over the next six weeks as we move through the novel together. We will provide a daily schedule for you to work on OR you may create your own schedule. Your schedule is your choice and what works best for you and your family.

Here is our recommended daily schedule:

Monday- Watch the lesson! This week, it is a YouTube video about setting.

Tuesday- Read Chapter 1. You may use the link labeled, “For ESL English Language Learners” which has a full PDF and two speeds of readers OR “The Outsiders Audio- Read180 Version,” which includes the audio only and stopping points to summarize what has happened so far.

Wednesday- Read Chapter 2. You may use the link labeled, “For ESL English Language Learners” which has a full PDF and two speeds of readers OR “The Outsiders Audio- Read180 Version,” which includes the audio only and stopping points to summarize what has happened so far.

Thursday- Complete the Google Form assignment

Friday- Complete the short answer responses using the Google Doc.

We are attaching all necessary documents and links in one single post on Google Classroom, so you do not have to scroll through multiple posts to find your assignments for the week. DO NOT submit your assignment until ALL COMPONENTS have been completed. Have an amazing week!

Your teachers,

Ms. Timpf & Mrs. Schafer

ParentConnect for parents that are struggling to sign in

Good Morning,
The following is information on how to log into ParentConnect. If you are struggling to remember your pin, there are directions on how to recover that information.

1. How do parents login to ParentConnect? To login to ParentConnect, parents need their PIN and password; there are 2 options to get this information.Option 1: Parents go to Dearborn Schools website then ParentConnect link. If they don’t know the login info, they click (Need Your Login Information) link and it will prompt them to enter their email address as provided to the school and entered in MIStar (Menu/Enrollment/Student Editor/Contacts) and click Submit. This process emails them their PIN and Password.

Option 2: If parents are unable to receive the email (no email, etc) and administrators need to provide the info, administrators can access MIStar Menu / System / ParentConnect Manager / Contacts Passwords as indicated below. Even though Option 2 is available for administrators, Option 1 is recommended because parents have to login to their email to retrieve the info and you can always add the email in Student Editor/Contacts if missing.

Remote Learning

Good morning! As We are sure most of you have heard, Governor Whitmer has delivered an official order that schools will be closed for the remainder of the school year unless there is a drastic change in this current situation. This is not the end of our learning but just a change in how school will be delivered for our remaining time together. Please continue to complete online work, read books, and practice your skills. We are still getting more guidance from the district and they are getting new information from the state. Please try not to fall behind or check out because you think that none of this counts. On the contrary, assume that all the work that you are being given is graded and counts towards your overall grades and advancement in school. As we learn more, your teachers will keep you updated. We truly miss seeing you every day! Enjoy your Spring Break as best you can. Stay home and find new ways to connect with your families. Refresh yourselves and get ready to come back to new and interesting lessons from your teachers. Soak up some sun and the warmer weather.
