Literacy Activity
Last week, we finished learning the alphabet! Today, encourage your child to practice writing their capital (upper case) and lower case letters. Here are some ideas as to how they can practice writing:
Shaving Cream and Q-tips
Writing in shaving cream is a great way to encourage your child to write because it is fun and attention-grabbing! All you need for this is shaving cream, a Q-tip, and a tray to write on.
Chalk
We may be expecting storms today. However, if the weather clears up, writing with chalk on side walk is a fun and engaging way to encourage your child to write the alphabet!
Paper and Crayons
Your child can simply write the alphabet with crayons and paper. Will they write the alphabet with the same color? Different colors? Make a pattern with the colors?
Send me pictures of your child’s writing on Remind or email: thompsl@dearbornschools.org
Math Activity
We finished learning the teen numbers! The next number after the teen numbers is 20.
For today’s activity, I encourage your child to count from 1 to 20. Here is a Jack Hartmann video your child can count with:
After the video is over, I encourage your child to count 20 things in your house.
Work Time
I encourage your child to engage in imaginary play for at least 60 minutes a day. To keep the consistency with what we do at school, I encourage you to follow the Plan, Do, Review process. Here is the Work Time process:
- Planning Time (5 minutes): Build your child’s ability to organize their time by having them make a “plan” with you about what they would like to play with. Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Adults make plans all the time to organize their thoughts (shopping lists are made before going to the grocery store, to do lists are made to help plan your day etc..).
Kids will tell you what they are planning to do/want to play with/how they will use toys at home.
- Work Time (45-60 minutes): Kids play WITHOUT ELECTRONICS Kids can use toys to pretend play, build, and create.
وقت العمل : يجب أن لا يستعمل الأولاد الإلكترونيات . يستطيع الأولاد استخدام الألعاب التي تساعدهم في التخيل و البناء و الإبداع - Clean Up: When Work Time is over, encourage your child to clean up the area(s) they played in.
- Recall (5-10 minutes): Build your child’s memory of events by having your child tell you what they did while they played (ask “tell me how you did that” or “what did you do next?”)
Fun Work Time Activity: Decorate Toilet Paper/Paper Towel Rolls
Do you have any toilet paper or paper towel rolls laying around? Before you recycle them, use them as an art activity for your child! Will they turn their roll into an animal? A monster? A dinosaur? The possibilities are endless!
Outdoor Exploration
We may be expecting some storms today. If the weather clears up, I encourage you and your child to go outside for 60 minutes a day. If the weather does not clear up, here are some indoor activities you can do at home:
