The PTA will be having a bake sale on Wednesday, February 6. Proceeds from the bake sale will be going towards the Children of Yemen fundraiser. The bake sale will take place in the front lobby. Everything sold will be 1 dollar! PTA is asking parents to please donate baked goods or store bought goods to our sale. Thank you! 🙂 The baked goods can be brought in with students in the morning or can be dropped off.

We have two weeks left to raise money for the Kids Heart Challenge. Any donations can be brought to school anytime in the next two weeks. If our class raises the most money, we will earn extra gym time. 🙂 Click on the link below for more information.
I hope everyone enjoyed the warmer temperatures this weekend and is getting ready to get back into a full week of school. Now that we are finished with NWEA testing, (just a few absent students need to do make-ups) we can get back to a normal schedule. We have library on Monday afternoon. Please make sure students have their library books. Wednesday is a late start. School begins at 9:35. There will be no school for Kindergarten on Friday and there will be a morning PTA meeting at 9am.
Here is what will be happening this week.
Math: We will be working on multiplication and division with word problems. There will be a topic quiz on Thursday that will cover lessons 1-3. A review sheet will come home Wednesday.
Science: We will investigate condensation by completing an investigation.
Social Studies: We are studying economics. This week we will focus on choice, scarcity, and opportunity cost.
Reading: We will focus on how the text and illustrations help us understand the mood of a story.
Writing: We will finish planning our opinion essay and then begin drafting paragraphs by the end of the week.

Happy Snow Day! I hope everyone is staying warm. This is going to be a cold week ahead. Please bundle up and dress for the weather, especially anyone that walks to school. Due to the short week last week, we are slightly behind with our testing. Therefore, I am planning on giving the NWEA math test Tuesday morning and completing the many make-up tests on Wednesday. We are still finalizing DRA testing as well, so it will be another fun week of tests. We will be back to our normal spelling this week, so expect new words and a test on Friday. We will start multiplication timed tests. We will start Tuesday with the zeros, ones, and twos. Students get one minute to complete 20 problems. They must get them all correct to move on to the next test. By the end of the year they need to know all facts up to 10. Practicing with flashcards for a few minutes each day is a great way to study the facts. Report cards came home on Friday. Please sign the envelope for card marking two and send back to school. You may keep the report card. Here is our plan for this week.
Math: We are working on learning multiplication facts using the distributive and commutative properties.
Science: We will be investigating condensation and exploring how it fits in with the water cycle.
Social Studies: We will be learning how entrepreneurs use natural, capital, and human resources to manufacture goods. We will also explore the concepts of scarcity, choice, and opportunity cost.
Reading: We will be describing characters and analyzing how their actions contribute to the sequence of events in a story.
Writing: We will continue planning our opinion essays by adding more details to our planning sheet.
Have a great week and stay warm!
If you are bored and looking for something to do…you could always do this 🙂
