Hello Families! This week starts the Scholastic Book Fair. We will be previewing the books on Monday and buying on Tuesday. Thursday is the annual roller skating party at the Lincoln Park Roller Rink from 6-8 pm. There is also a PTA meeting on Friday at 9 a.m. to discuss helping your child with reading at home. With the new Read By Third Grade law in effect this year, it is a very important meeting to attend if you can. The class with the most parents in attendance will win a pizza party. There will be an open house following the meeting where you can walk through the school and get an understanding of what goes on in the classrooms on a day to day basis. Here is our focus for the week:
Math: We will be working on adding and subtracting measurements this week.
Science: We will work on graphing and analyzing weather data. It would be helpful if you had your child watch the weather report each night.
Social Studies: We will be discussing the rights and responsibilities all citizens have. A study guide will come home later in the week. The test on government will be next week.
Reading: We will learn how to determine the author’s point of view and compare it to our own by giving details from the text to support our thinking.
Writing: We are ready to draft our opinion writing and will be spending the week preparing to publish.
