Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed our two week break. We have two weeks until the end of the card marking, so we will be jumping right back into school mode. New spelling words will come out tomorrow with our usual test on Friday. NWEA and I-Ready testing windows open this week. However, we will not start testing until next week. This will give kids some time to brush up on previous learning and get a few extra minutes in on the I-Ready program. It is very important that students are on this program at least 45 minutes per week and are passing their lessons with at least 80% proficiency. Here is what our upcoming week looks like.
Math: We will spend time learning strategies for subtracting with regrouping with a focus on place value. We will also work on word problems.
Science: We will analyze how surface area affect the evaporation rate of water by conducting an investigation and recording measurement data in a data chart.
Social Studies: We will learn about Henry Ford as an entrepreneur, manufacturing, and reasons why people came to Michigan.
Reading: We will be learning how to recount stories by summarizing the important information from the beginning, middle, and end as well as determining the central message.
Writing: We are starting a new unit on opinion writing. Students will start with a cold write on Monday to show what they know about opinion writing. The rest of the week will be spent analyzing mentor texts so students get an idea of what good opinion writers do.
