Archive for December 2018

Welcome to a new week.  Keep up the good work, most students completed well over the minimum 45 minutes per week required on I-Ready.  Most students had over an hour logged in last week!  I am so proud of all of you.  Wednesday will be a late start.  Students should be at school by 9:30 that day.  Here is what we will be learning about this week.

Math:  We will be rounding 2 and 3 digit numbers to the nearest ten on a vertical number line.

Science:  We will continue to track our weather daily and keep track of it on our weather data table.  We will learn how to conduct a fair test to observe what happens to a wet paper towel that is exposed to air overnight.

Social Studies:  We will continue our unit on Michigan History – test next week Wednesday.

Reading:  We will be studying different text structures authors use in informational text.  This will include sequencing, compare and contrast, and cause and effect.

Writing:  We will continue writing and begin publishing our informational books.  Students will get to practice the text structures they are learning about during our reading time to incorporate some of them into their own books.

Please continue to practice math and reading using the I-Ready and Zearn websites.  Looking forward to a great week!

Based on Public Law 306 (October 2016), third grade students who are more than a year below grade level on the state ELA assessment are under consideration for retention in third grade. Dearborn Public Schools staff in elementary schools have been systematically planning to ensure that teachers have the training to teach reading effectively and that students receive small group instruction based on their needs. The current year second graders are the first group to potentially be impacted by the legislation.
You are invited to join the district task force to strengthen the planning process and to ensure that the community is informed and engaged in the success of every student.
If you would like to participate, please complete the survey.
