Thursday night is open house I will send the time later this week, it is a chance for the parents to meet the teacher and sign up for conferences. I hope to see everyone Thursday. Friday is a half day with dismissal at 11:45am.
This week we will start with the spelling words and our spelling test will be every Friday.
This week we will be taking the reading and math NWEA test. Students are being tested to determine their DRA reading levels.
This week we will focus on:
Math: Students are getting used to the new math book, we started with multiplication last week and this week we are getting more into division. Everyday the students will be taking home a guide sheet to review what they have learned in school and to help them with the homework.
Social Studies: Last week we started our first unit which is Geography we were able to look at different places using good earth and students worked on “Me on the Map” project. This week we are going to continue with our geography unit and focus on cardinal directions and look at the natural resources in Michigan.
Reading: We are still exploring fiction texts this week. We will be focusing on asking and answering questions in a complete sentence by restating the question in the answer. Answering in complete sentences is a very important skill. You can practice this at home with your child. When asking them questions, have them respond to you in a complete sentence.
Writing: We are learning how to do flash drafts or quick writes to get ideas onto paper. This is the beginning process of developing stories. You can help your child at home with this by having them orally tell you a story making sure it has a beginning, middle, end and some interesting details.
Science: We will continue exploring magnetic forces and focus on balanced and unbalanced forces.
If you have any questions you can always send me an email or a note.
Have a great week!
