Homework–ACT III

Read the rest of the funeral speech scene (ii) and the mob scene (iii).  Add rising action, climax and falling action to your plot note sheet for Tuesday.

Checking for understanding questions:

  1. What does Brutus say will happen to the Roman people if Caesar had remained alive? How does this parallel Act I?
  2. What does Brutus offer to do if the people desire it? Explain the parallel to Act I.
  3. How does Antony counter Brutus’ speech? Name at least 3 things he points out to refute Brutus’ point.
  4. Find example of irony in Antony’s speech.
  5. What REALLY motivates the people to switch allegiance from Brutus to Antony?
  6. Who arrives at the end of this speech and scene? Why is he important?iii
  7. Who is Cinna in this scene and what happens to him? How is this situational irony?
  8. What message (theme) is Shakespeare trying to make about the vengeance/war/mobs through this brief scene?

Extra Credit: Bring in a box of tissue TOMORROW for the class to use 🙂
