Fine Motor Friday!

On a normal Friday at school we practice our fine motor skills.

Here are some ideas you can try at home today to help your child practice their skills:

  • Color with crayons
  • Make shapes with tape and then trace each shape with small objects such as blocks, coins, or pasta
  • Build with blocks
  • Scoop cereal with a spoon and transfer it between two bowls
  • Open and close bottles – preferably empty so there’s no mess 🙂

Check out the video below that our OT, Ms. Staci, made for more ideas of things you can do with items from around your house!

Daily Living Skills

Don’t forget to keep working on your child’s daily living skills!

Daily living skills are important to practice so your child can become independent.  Self help skills also help your child to feel empowered!  We practice many of these at school on a daily basis.

Try working on one or more of the skills listed below today:

  • Wipe down tables
  • Put away clean clothes
  • Brush their hair
  • Wash hands – we worked on this every day at school they know they the steps!
  • Pulling pants up and down when its time to use the bathroom
  • Throw away trash after a snack
  • Putting away toys

Early Math Skills

In school we are working on number recognition and counting.

Check out our ClassDojo to see a video of me reading the “Counting Eggs” books I sent home in your first packet.  Below are other ways you can work on counting and number recognition today:

  • Count your fingers and toes
  • Count your stuffed animals
  • Build a block tower and count how many blocks you used
  • I sent home number flashcards in your packet.  Cut them apart and show your child two at a time and ask them to find a number

If you have not yet joined our ClassDojo and you would like to be invited again, contact me through email or text and I will send you another invite!  I will post videos of me completing learning activities for the kids every week! Don’t miss out!

Letter of the Week

Our letter of the week is the letter V!

Message from Ms. Ashley

Parents,

I just want to remind you that a lot of what we work on in school is exposure to academic material. The students in my class need a lot of repetition with activities in order to master them. Please do not feel discouraged if your child cannot do something I have suggested. Repeated exposure to academics in a play like manner is what will help our children learn and grow. 🙂

As always, let me know if you have any questions.
