Thank you parents for meeting with me during conferences and discussing NWEA results, report cards and ways we can continue to work together and support the students in their virtual learning.
Learning labs are still happening by zoom in the afternoon! I will be changing these days and times for my sessions next week. Mrs. M also has lessons in the afternoon for her reading groups. Please make sure you know your child’s day and time. I always announce the children who are meeting before we leave our afternoon session. I really appreciate your help in making sure they are on zoom on time and they have their books ready so we can start reading right away. This is your child’s chance to practice their reading strategies in a small group, reading books on their level.

Due to the rise in Covid-19 cases in Dearborn, I have been advised by my administration to suspend my in person learning labs until further notice. They will be cancelled this week. No cases have been identified in our building or with any of my students. I will still be meeting with my students during learning lab times virtually on zoom at the times scheduled for the in person labs.

Zearn and I-Ready
Please remember to do 15 minutes on Zearn and I-Ready every day! I am monitoring the times and lessons completed each week. Some students are not regularly doing their lessons on these sites.
This note is from our School Social Worker to all parents. Please respond to her via email or phone if you are in need this holiday season.
Please share attached flyer with families that you think may be in need of a Turkey this holiday season. The drive is first come, first served and is on Saturday November 21st. This is a contactless drive-thru pick up and there are a limited number of Halal turkeys available. I need the names of interested families and number of people in the household so that I can sign them up prior to the drive, no later than November 15th.
Ahoy students and families! We are coming to the end of the 1st quarter of our First Grade learning adventure together! This Friday is a half day for students. I will be working on report cards.
All completed (Blue folder) September activities packets, and (Yellow folder) Benchmark packets for Unit 1, (Weeks 1, 2 and 3) will be due this Friday. You may send the completed work with your child to learning labs, or bring them into the office and put them into my mailbox. All spelling test scores (1-4) will need to be entered into Schoology or they will be zeros and all discussion questions on Schoology should all be answered by Friday. Two students still need to take the Mid Module 1 test this week. The October zoom and activities packet will not be due until next week since October ends on the weekend.
We are beginning Unit 2 in Benchmark this week. This week is week 1 found in the Red folder. Continue working each day on Zearn, I-Ready and Epic Books. I am monitoring student progress there as well.
Halloween Friday
This Friday, students may wear their Halloween costumes during our Zoom lessons. Please no masks and only school appropriate costumes please.
My learning labs are still happening! Our district canceled them last week based on the fact that Covid-19 numbers were beginning to increase in Wayne County, however, they have given teachers the option to continue working with 3 students at a time taking all of the precautions of social distancing, sanitizing and mask wearing as long as there are no outbreaks in our school environment. Without our in person labs, students will be required to continue virtual learning on zoom during the afternoon lab times. I have chosen to continue our learning labs in person at this time. If any parent is uncomfortable with this, please let me know. If you child is not feeling well, please do not send them to the learning labs, but please let me know. If we have any incidences of the disease, I will change these plans immediately and we will go virtual labs in the afternoon. This week, students will be decorating a pumpkin, and making a haunted house scene with stickers. Then they will be writing a narrative story about their scene. I will be reading with them as well. Please bring any completed work for me to grade for report cards and all student reading books in their bookbags to learning labs. No chrome books please!
Epic Books
Over 1769 books have been read on Epic books by my students since we began school! This has totaled over 186 hours of reading! I am so proud of my students! This will allow you to read a selection of books for free in the evening. Epic books is usually only free during school hours. Let me know if you need me to resend the invitation to you. Media-Technology course on Schoology
Many students have been having trouble finding Mrs. Wilcox, Media course that is scheduled on Friday. I have been referring you to her email to communicate with her since I cannot see her course as a teacher. I am still getting many parents asking me about the Media course, so I went into a student course and discovered that she has posted her course as Technology only, not as Media, hence the confusion. So, visit the Technology course every Friday to find her assignments. Mrs. Wilcox is the Media-technology teacher in our building.
There will be no in person open house at any of the Dearborn schools due to the current pandemic. There will be extra time added to parent teacher conferences which will be held virtually to allow more time for teachers to meet with parents. Our wonderful staff here at Snow has proactively created a bitmoji slideshow to share with parents and students. I hope you all enjoy the show and share it with your children please click the link below.

The Learning Labs have begun! It is exciting to see all of my students in person! Please have your child bring their book bags and any packets of work that are completed each time that they visit. Some of the packets that have been turned in are not completed. Each paper is graded and any assignment not complete or blank will be graded accordingly. Also remember to have your child put their name on the cover of each packet. The monthly activity packets and zoom packets need to also be completed and turned in for a grade when completed. When coming into learning labs, chrome books are not necessary at this time. This week, I will be assessing Math and Social Studies progress, along with reading. We will be working in the Benchmark, Unit 1, Week 3 packet this week. The times for learning labs for my students will remain the same as last week. If you are unsure about your time, please ask me after our zoom session. I will try to remind the children each day. If your child is not feeling well, please let me know and keep them home. We want to keep everyone safe and well!
Over 1551 books have been read on Epic books by my students since we began school! This has totaled over 166 hours of reading! I am so proud of my students! Remember, if you want to read into the evening (after 4:00pm) on Epic books you need to respond to the email invite that I sent to you. This will allow you to read a selection of books for free in the evening. Epic books is usually only free during school hours. Let me know if you need me to resend the invitation to you. I have assigned 7 books to my students this week about some symbols of the United States and bats. Lucian has hit the 100 books read level and Isaac has read over 20 hours! Great job! Keep on reading!
Please be sure to check the Schoology site for any old assignments or discussion questions to complete. I have not been assigning many discussion questions lately. I do post all of the assignments daily in ELA and Math along with my lesson plan chart. I always post a discussion question on Friday so that you can tell me your child’s Spelling Test Score. A few students have not submitted Test 1 or Test 2’s score. Any missing assignments or discussion questions on Schoology will become zeros when I do my report card grades at the end of October and this may affect your child’s grade.
