Ahoy! This is Captain Slater reporting to you with some new adventures with new requirements. We are now entering into the 4th semester of our first grade learning at home classroom! We have spent the last 5 weeks getting used to the at home learning tools and exploring interesting sites. We have set goals and you all have been trying so hard, with the help of your family, to keep our ship sailing! I hope you are all enjoying the learning so far! Great job sailors!
This week we are given new requirements from our administrators, but you will notice that you have all been doing most of these things already! The new assignments will be graded each week and you will be given a grade for the 4th card marking period using these grades. The grades will be recorded as: Meeting, doing all of the assigned work, Progressing, doing most of the assignments, and Limited Participation, rarely or not doing any of the assignments.
The assignments will be very specific, so you need to do everything on the list. If you want to use any of the other sites from previous weeks, they are all still there, but you will receive grades based only on what is assigned to you each week.
You still will be doing 2 hours ( 25 minutes a day) on I-Ready, Zearn math has been reduced to only 3 lessons per week, and Reading Epic books online for 15 minutes a day. Science or Social Studies will be covered in books or videos that I assign to each student on Epic and the time spent on them will be counted in the 15 minutes of reading each day. The assigned books and videos will be found in the mailbox at the top of the Epic home page once you log into Epic. Sometimes, the books will come with a short quiz after reading, so remember to take the quiz and press finished to receive credit. It will say Book Completed, so don’t just flip pages! I still have a few students who have not yet tried EPIC. You can access it using the class code below if necessary.
Spelling words Week 28: Pattern: Long o, spelled -oa, -ow Students may choose the list that they would like to study this week. Bonus words are: road, goat, show, row, slow
List 1: float, snow, grow, boat, toad

Please do the 2 activities on the assignment chart. Send me only the score. There are 15 total words. (5 from the list, 5 sight words, 5 bonus words)
Writing: A new writing assignment will be given every week and students can send me a copy of their writing or send it in the same email with their spelling test score.
Please look at the chart below for this week’s lessons. All of the lessons that I give to you will be monitored throughout the week online by Mrs. Slater.

By the end of the week, you should have completed the following assignments to receive a meeting grade for the week. Any other written notes taken during the week do not need to be turned in.
- 2 hours (120 min) of I-Ready ( I will monitor the time online)
- 3 Zearn lessons (I will monitor the lessons online)
- Reading 15 minutes a day on Epic, which includes the any videos or books assigned by Mrs. Slater located on Epic site. They are found in the students mailbox at the top of the home page on Epic. (I will monitor the books and time on line)

P.S. Our class has read 198 books on Epic totaling over 26 hours since we began using it on March 25th! (This does not include the many videos watched). Top reader is Adam, with a total of 59 books read! There is a tie for second , Faisal and Max with a total of 33 books read each! Violet is in third with a total of 15 books read! Congratulations, and keep on reading! I love watching the number of books that are being read grow each day!
