Monday, April 20

Good morning! This is a long announcement, but it has a lot of important information. Please read it carefully.

This week we are reading Chapters 2 and 3 of “The City of Ember”! Like last week, this assignment is on Google Slides and is broken down into 3 parts: pre-reading, reading, and post-reading. You will type your answers into the slides and submit the whole assignment when it is complete. ALL PARTS OF THIS ASSIGNMENT ARE DUE SUNDAY, APRIL 26.

Here is an optional schedule for your assignments this week:

Monday: Read and watch Week 1 Recap. Complete Pre-Reading Character Brainstorming Chart.
Tuesday/Wednesday: Read/listen to Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 and answer questions.
Thursday/Friday: Complete Post-Reading Character Collage

This week Ms. Irbash will start hosting optional Google Hangouts every Monday and Thursday at 4:00 pm. The purpose of these meetings is to go over the assignment of the week and answer questions that you may have. You do not have to attend these Hangouts if you don’t have questions.

We will send you the nickname to the Google Hangout on Google Classroom about 5 minutes before the meeting starts. Directions to join are as follows:
In a web browser, enter https://meet.google.com.
Click Join or start a meeting.
Enter a nickname.

Here is a break down of what the Hangouts will look like:
Mondays (Going over what the assignment for the week is):
I will start at exactly 4:05.
I will share my screen with everyone and go over each slide. (this will take about 6-10 minutes)
I will then open the session to any questions that you may have. (Please see Google Hangout expectations below)

Thursdays (Answering questions about the week’s reading):
I will start exactly 4:05
You MUST have read or listened to the chapter before you attend.
I will answer specific questions about the assignment. If you did not read the chapter, you will be kicked out!

Google Hangout expectations:
Between 4:00-4:05 I will log on and wait for students to log in. You may have your mics on and talk to one another then to catch up.
At 4:05 all students MUST mute their mics.
You may not use the chat to have side conversations.
If you have a question while I am speaking about what I am saying, please use the chat to ask your question and I will answer it.
After the “lecture”, I will open it to students to ask specific questions. One person at a time must be speaking. Please listen to others’ questions because they might have the same question as you.
Any student not following these expectations will be kicked out of the Hangout.
Hope to see you there!!
