Last week of September!

Well the year is already flying by! Here’s some info about our week.

Math: We did our quiz about forms of numbers and the class blew me away! They did an amazing job! We will continue to expand on forms of numbers by using their places and values to discuss how the value of each place goes up and down by ten times the amount depending on what place you’re in.

Language Arts: We finally published our writings. Most of the kids have finished their final copy and illustrations for their first narrative of the year. We are starting our beginning of the year writing test, which is informational. They will do a formal writing test in September, January, and May to assess how much they improved throughout the year and the fourth grade team chose to use the informational genre for the assessments.

Science: We are continuing on with our energy unit. The kids are making GREAT connections about energy and motion, and we’ve started to talk about light, sound, and heat, too.

Social studies: We are scooting along with location still. We’ve been a bit more focused on science this week because the investigations are taking a long time, so next week will have more social studies content.

Week 3

Hello 4th grade parents! A quick overview of the week:

Math- we are working on expanding numbers and writing numbers in word form up to one million.

Language arts- we are finishing narrative writings as a whole group. We are working on comprehension skills in reading, such as check for understanding.

Science – we are exploring energy and motion. This week we will begin an experiment.

Social studies – we are beginning our unit on our location in the United States.

I’m hoping to do a science and math mini quiz this week. It is nothing that needs to be studied for, just working on focusing during school work. 😊

My favorite day of school, ever!

Today we did a little field day with just our class. We had some yard games and everyone seemed to have a blast! It was so much fun watching them play the games and having fun together. I sure will miss them! I know some of these turned out rotated for some reason, but I figured it’s better than nothing!

Summer Activities

This summer, I have set up Google Classroom with a Reading Log for everyone so the kids will not lose their logs. I also set up an xtramath account for every student in the class to practice math facts over the summer.

I will be checking the logs and xtramath at least once a week to see how everyone is doing. The kids can always send me emails and comments if there are any questions. 🙂

March is Exciting!

This month is March is Reading Month. The school’s theme is Dr. Suess.

Today we have a concert that we will be seeing by Michigan author, Carol Paul, and the Americana Folk Duo, Joe Kidd and Sheila Burke.

Next week is the Book Fair. Our class will be going together on Monday, but if they bring money throughout the week, they can go during snack time or lunch.

We also have the Music Concert coming up on March 24. I will keep you posted on any other exciting events happening this month!

Happy reading!

Over the break

One more day before mid-winter break! I know we are all anxious to relax.

Please make sure your child is reading for at least 30 minutes everyday. This is very important for keeping their reading skills in tip top shape!

Also, practicing long division is a must do. I will be sending home some division practice worksheets over the break. Usually I don’t send worksheets, but we just can’t go a week with no practice. I don’t want this to slip out of their brains over the break. I will post some videos to help with the process of long division, too.
