Our last learning blog for 2016!

This week we will finalize our learning about invasive species and review the ENTIRE ecosystem unit.

Students will pair up or work on their own to research an invasive specie of their choice then create an informative project about it.  Students will continue their research as homework, however time will be given in class to work on it.

Afterward, we will review what we learned about regarding the ecosystem and choose a topic to write about showing their knowledge of this topic.  We will play some Kahoot as a review session.  Students will then create a 3-5 paragraph essay informing us about the topic they choose.

Topics Students could choose:

  • How are new predators introduced into an area? Where has this happened in the United States?
  • How is the ecosystem of your back yard different from the ecosystem of another person’s back yard ecosystem?
  • Should scientists bring back an extinct animal? What animals would you bring back and why?
  • If scientists brought back the saber-toothed tiger, how might it impact the environment?
  • How is a desert ecosystem different from a forest ecosystem?
  • What is the history and impact of manure?
  • How are different types of manure good or bad?
  • How has the popularity of sushi impacted the earth?
  • What trends in eating habits have impacted our environment?
  • What hosts and parasites exist in your home?

If students didn’t get a chance to complete the essay in class, they are to work on it during break and submit it before January 4, 2018.

We will be having CLASS DOJO celebrations this week from the last marking period for the top 3 hours.

1st Place: 2nd hour (A-day)– Movie, snack, and Kahoot,  2nd Place: 2nd hour (B-Day)– Snack, Board Games, Kahoot and 3rd place 4th hour (B-Day)–Board Games, snack.

Congratulations to the three hours above!  A-Day students will celebrate on Thursday 12/22, and B-Day students 4th hour will celebrate on Wednesday 12/21 and 2nd hour on Friday 12/23.
