This week we will be taking our Module 1 Assessment. In order to help your child be prepared, I will be passing out a paper copy tomorrow for your child to complete at home. On Thursday this week we will be reviewing the study guide and going over this modules concepts. Please have your child practice and complete the study guide by Thursday.

Our 47^th annual Lindbergh Holiday Boutique is on deck!  For those of you who are not familiar, the holiday boutique is a PTA sponsored event that hosts crafters from all around Michigan to come in and show off their homemade goods.  We also have a limited kitchen open (which offers halal options), our infamous and biggest bake sale of the year, and this is also where we raffle off all the class baskets you all have been working so diligently on.  The event is a huge proceed generator that goes right back to all our phenomenal teachers to use for their students and classroom needs.

A very special thanks goes out to our event Chairs, Kelly Panackia and Gwynn Bondy; we are so thankful for you and the fun you and your committee plan for the school each year!
Raffle tickets were sent home last month!  Each family should have an envelope containing fifty (50) tickets to sell for $2 each.  Our goal is to have only ONE fundraiser for the entire school year!

There are three cash prizes, as listed on the tickets (please note the prize amounts in the letter that came home are incorrect, but the prizes on the actual tickets *are* correct):

First prize–$500
Second prize–$250
Third prize–$250

Important dates:
September 19th–Raffle tickets sent home with oldest/only child at Lindbergh
November 1st–All sold and unsold tickets/stubs with money are due.  (It is a legal requirement that we collect all tickets for this fundraiser, regardless of whether they’ve been sold)
Saturday, November 9th–Raffle drawing will be held at 4 PM at our Holiday Boutique!  (Winner does not need to be present)

While not an official PTA or Lindbergh event, the annual Road Rally has become a much-anticipated yearly tradition for Lindbergh parents, staff, and friends–adults only!

This year’s theme is “A Nightmare on Waverly Street”! Teams will participate in tasks or activities at each stop in order to receive clues to the next location. Since this was our first week really focusing on spelling words, we will be extending our words until next Friday. The test will be next week that way students can review and practice spelling routines in class a little further.

Good Evening Parents,

Tonight your child will be taking home their Mid Module Task Assessment for Module 1.  Note we are moving away from points with the math assessments. We are following the Eureka Math standards based rubric. Which in order to be within range for each area, there is a criteria. I grade each problem with the following criteria below. The area where the student falls the most is how their grade is finalized.

Exceeding/4- Evidence of solid reasoning with a correct answer.

Meeting/3- Evidence of some reasoning with a correct answer or evidence of solid reasoning with an incorrect answer.

Progressing/2- Evidence of some reasoning with out a correct answer. 

Below/1- Little evidence of reasoning without the correct answer.

The rubric that I used to grade your child’s assessment can be found below:

Please sign your child’s test and return it tomorrow. For those students who fell to the 1-2 range I will be working closely with your child to correct their test. If you have any questions feel free to let me know!

This week we will begin by focusing on Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind. Great leaders are always reflecting upon their work and setting W.I.G.S. (wildly important goals) for themselves but in their academic lives and personal lives. In order to create a plan for ourselves, we will be starting our W.I.G. tracker and scoreboard. Make sure to touch base with your child to see what W.I.G. goal did they set for themselves and what lead measures (steps ) they are taking to reach their goal.

In addition, today marks the start of our new unit for Reading. Please see the note sent home regarding to our first three week unit: Government for the People. A copy of this can also be found below:

Spelling- Today your child received their first spelling list for ELA. For the Benchmark Advance spelling program students are learning a word pattern that is aligned to the curriculum. They will have a list of 8 words that identify with that pattern. In addition to these 8 words, students will have a list of vocabulary words that they are not expected to spell but are expected to know what the words mean. These content-specific vocabulary words are aligned to the reading that we will be doing throughout the week. Spelling tests will be given on a weekly basis (usually Friday). For extra practice, students do have access to a spelling Google Slide presentation. This can be found within Google Classroom and will be worked on in class as well. If at any time you have questions regarding the spelling, please reach out to me.

Math- Please look for your mid-module assessment coming home tomorrow. Students will be updating their leadership binders to reflect their data and bringing home their score. Please sign and return when done. Over the course of the week we will be continuing our multiplication and division units expanding our multiplication facts to 4s. We will be practicing using skip-counting as a strategy, arrays, and tape diagrams to solve word problems.

Science- We will continue our study of forces this week, this time by considering some of the forces involved in designing a bridge (as an activity your child will design and test their own bridge made of paper).

One fun thing you can do to support this week’s learning is sit down together with your child and enjoy browsing through some of the world’s most intriguing and extraordinary bridges (see link). Social Studies- Students will be discussing the geography of Michigan. We will practice identifying the absolute and relative location of the state, as well as some of the human characteristics and physical characteristics of Michigan.

Leader in Me- Think Ahead. Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind teaches us that when we want to achieve something, we start by creating a mental picture. By creating a picture first, the goal is more likely to become a reality. Students will be setting their academic W.I.G. goals.
