Third Grade

Fairly Magical Folktales

The students will be researching as authors what do all folktales have. To begin the process, the teacher will model and introduce one-two folktales. As a shared writing activity, the class will keep in a research log what are some elements of folktales that are clear within the story. Following this information, students will then work collaboratively with a group to research and gather more information about folktale elements.  Once students have researched and gathered data regarding folktales, students then will work as a shared group to design a folktale writing rubric. This writing rubric will be designed for students and they will then work independently to create a folktale. Students then will work on developing a folktale that has a moral/lesson that exhibits the 7 habits.  Lastly, when students are done creating their folktale they will decide as a group which folktale to perform. Students will select a folktale and then work to present this information in a new way.
