Musician spotlight

So much music is being made this month, though we would like to highlight just one musician for her hard work.  Every year the fourth graders get to go and see the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra perform a concert just for them.  Part of that concert features student performers and this year our own Sara Nasser from Ms. Beydoun’s class got to play with the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra!!

Sara asked me about this opportunity at the beginning of the year, and we discussed what it would take for her to be selected.  She came in before school every week to work with me on learning the recorder, and spent time after school at home practicing.  She set the goal of being selected to perform, worked hard, and on Tuesday March, 19 met her goal and performed with other recorder players from across Dearborn, playing Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.”  She is an amazing example of what we can accomplish when we set a goal and meet it with focus and joy!  Congratulations Sara!!

Groovin’ in 2019

It may be snowing outside, but we are having fun inside making music!

This has been a busy month for our elementary musicians.  Kindergarten and first grade have been learning about Form, how we take different sounding sections of music and combine them to create a song.  This week we are beginning to compose our own music using ABA form!  Second and third grade musicians are working on music for concerts later this spring, dates for the concerts have not been decided on yet, but our musicians are sounding pretty good already.  Fourth grade musicians are beginning to learn how to read musical notation while playing the recorder.  Sorry about the squeaks you may hear at home, we will get better soon and sound wonderful.  Fourth grade also has a field trip coming up to see the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra at the Civic Center.  Our fifth grade musicians are really excited about their song writing project.  Each class will decide on a theme, create the music, write the lyrics and melody, and record their own original song!  Whew! It is a lot, but it is a lot of fun too!

2018 sing along!

In just two Fridays we will be going on break for two whole weeks!  On Friday December,21 we will have our 2018 sing along and a red and green out for the school.  Be sure to wear red and /or green that day to celebrate.  Our sing along will include Jingle Bells, Here Comes Santa Clause, Santa Clause is Coming to Town, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and finally The Twelve Days of Christmas.  It will be a great way to end the year, together celebrating with song!

5th grade concert!

This is just a reminder that our Fifth grade concert is this Wednesday December,5 at 10 am.  Musicians should wear pants (no jeans or sweatpants) and a nice shirt with no writing or pictures, and girls can wear dresses as well.   Families are welcome! Make sure to be in your seats early, we will begin promptly at 10.  Our musicians are sounding great!

For concert introduction practice

Remember to practice if you want to introduce one of the songs!  Ms. Sobh’s class will introduce Sunny Side of the Street, Ms. Fawaz’s class will introduce Lean On Me, and Ms. Rida’s class will introduce Roar.  If you are in Ms. Rida’s class we will audition and write the introduction next Wednesday, November, 28.  You can write your own to practice.  It should be 4 sentences following this format, “Our next song is Roar.  (say something about what you learned, what you like about the song, what style it is in, anything else you may want the audience to know) We hope you enjoy!”  You can look at the other classes introductions as examples.

Sobh Sunny Side of The Street

Our next song is Sunny Side of the Street.  It is sung in a Jazz style.  We learned about Scat, which is improvised vocals.  This song makes you happy instead of staying in the dark.  We hope you enjoy

Fawaz Lean On Me

Our first/next/last song is Lean on Me. The song is very smooth,  it makes us feel safe and the words make us happy. It is sung in an RnB style.  We like it and have been working on it since the beginning of the year.  We hope you enjoy.
