Week of September 3

Hi everyone!

Just a few updates as we start our second week of school:

Some dates to remember:

Today, September 3 from 4-6 PM Howard Picnic

Thursday, September 12 Open House 6:00

Thursday, September 12 Fourth Grade Parent Meeting at 5:30 PM.

This is an opportunity for you to come sit in your child’s classroom and get a brief ‘orientation’ to our year ahead. The meeting will take place in my room (14) the half hour BEFORE Open House. That way, you can just stay and enjoy the evening afterwards! No worries if you cannot attend, as I will upload the information and presentation to my blog.

As we begin the week, we are starting to get into more curriculum! Students will also be taking the NWEA test this week. Fourth graders will be taking three tests: Math, Reading, and Language. We will take these tests three times: September, January, and May. I am happy to discuss your child’s progress as we meet for conferences later this fall. I will also be individually reading with each child to complete their fall DRA assessment to identify their current reading level.

Since this is another four day week, and we do have a lot of testing to complete, we will not begin spelling until next week. This year, vocabulary will be part of our spelling routine, as well.

We are also beginning Eureka Math Module 1 this week. Your child will often bring home a homework assignment that is directly related to the classwork and lesson taught that day. There will be a homework helper attached to each assignment if your child needs a little extra support. There are also some really great Eureka Math Youtube videos that correlate perfectly with the lessons we do in school.

Finally, I am sending home a September reading log for your child to keep track of the minutes read each day. You do NOT have to sign that calendar each day– please just continue to sign your child’s planner, and you can sign the reading log at the end of each MONTH. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

I look forward to meeting many of you next week.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to a new school year! I am so excited to be working with your students this year. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone. It’s going to be a great year!

Your students may know me as Ms. Fleming. I got married this summer, so my new last name is Nosewicz. πŸ™‚ We will all be getting used to it!

It is important for you to check your child’s planner and take home folder daily so we are all on the same page. Students will write in their planners each day and show them to me each morning.

We will still be following PBIS rules at Howard! The most important rules are to: Be respectful, be responsible, and be safe! For every day your child is on green, they will earn a hole punch in their punch cards, which can be traded for prizes. There will also be monthly rewards.

Lunch is at 12:35 this year. Students may bring a healthy snack for the morning, and water. We are going to limit snacks to fruits, vegetables, and cheese due to food allergies in the classroom. Since we do have the later lunch, I encourage them to bring something to snack on each day!

I will share more information with you soon. I am looking forward to seeing you all on Monday! Enjoy your weekend. πŸ™‚
