U.S. History
Good afternoon everyone,
I hope all is well and that you and your families are healthy. This Friday through Monday we will be celebrating Memorial Day weekend. So our work for this week will be due by 11:59 on Thursday May 21st 2020. Our work for next week will be posted on Tuesday May 26th. I hope you enjoy the long weekend off and remember that with only four week left be sure that you are all caught up with your work for our class. Be sure to check Student Connect to see which logs you are missing and if you still are unsure shoot us an email and I will gladly help you out. Also instead of a google meet or Crash Course video we will be watching a video titled How WWII and Vietnam Veterans Were Treated Differently and completing a reflection log that goes along with it. Don’t forget to complete your reading article reflection also.

Vocabulary Terms-Chapter 22–The Vietnam War Years (Part II)
- Silent Majority-An unspecified large group of people in a country or group who do not express their opinions publicly. The term was popularized by United States President Richard Nixon in a November 3, 1969.
- Tet Offensive-A series of attacks staged by North Vietnamese forces beginning in the early hours of January 31, 1968. They consisted of simultaneous attacks by some 85,000 troops under the direction of the North Vietnamese government.
- Tonkin Gulf Resolution-A resolution authorized President Lyndon Johnson to “take all necessary measures to repel any armed attack against the forces of the United States and to prevent further aggression” by the communist government of North Vietnam.
- Vietnamization-One of President Nixon’s policies aimed at ending America’s involvement in the Vietnam War training and equipping South Vietnam’s forces against North Vietnam.
- War Powers Act-A federal law intended to check the president’s power to commit the United States to an armed conflict without the consent of the U.S. Congress.

For this week we are asking that you read the four articles posted below which examine the fallout from the United States involvement in the Vietnam War. Remember that you are required to read all four articles, but you only have to submit a reflections log for one of the articles. After you compete the reflection sheet posted in the supplemental materials section on this post please save the document as a word document or google doc email it to me at murrayr@dearbornschools.org by 11:59 pm on Thursday May 21st. Be sure to use the check list I have included to make sure that you don’t skip a step.
