U.S. History
Good afternoon everyone,
I wanted to thank each and every one of you who submitted your reading and video reflection sheets this week. There have many changes that are beyond our control and we wanted to thank you for being flexible with us as we get everything organized. For this week we will continue having your read the four articles that we are posting today and have you complete the reading reflection assignment for just one of the four articles. Since google meets is still suspended, we are having issues with Big Blue Button I am having some recording issues we continue to watch Crash Course videos and completing reflections on them until I can figure out a better way to record lessons. Watching the video and completing the reflection sheet for the video will count as our “meeting” for this week. Listed below is a check list to help you keep your week organized.

II. Complete the reading reflection log for one of the two Civil Rights Movement articles or the two Vietnam Articles

Vocabulary Terms- Chapter 22-The Vietnam War Years
- Agent Orange-A powerful herbicide used by U.S. military forces during the Vietnam War to eliminate the forest cover and crops of North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops.
- Domino Theory-A theory during the Cold War that said if one country in a region came under the influence of communism, then the surrounding countries would fall to communism as well.
- Ho Chi Minh Trail-Trail was a network of roads built from North Vietnam to South Vietnam through the neighboring countries of Laos and Cambodia, to provide logistical support to the Vietcong and the North Vietnamese Army during the Vietnam War.
- Napalm-A highly flammable jelly like liquid substance used during the Vietnam war in incendiary bombs and flamethrowers that sticks to a person’s skin and causes severe burns when on fire.
- Pentagon Papers-A set of officially titled documents known as the “Report of the Office of the Secretary of Defense Vietnam Task Force,” designed to act as a comprehensive history of American involvement in the Vietnam from the end of World War II through 1967
This Week’s Reading Reflection:
For this week we are asking that you read the four articles posted below which examine the lives and deaths of MLK and Malcolm X along with examining our reasons for entering the Vietnam War and the role the Vietcong played. Remember that you are required to read all four articles, but you only have to submit a reflections log for one of the articles. After you compete the reflection sheet posted in the supplemental materials section on this post please save the document as a word document or google doc email it to me at murrayr@dearbornschools.org by 11:59 pm on Sunday May 17th. Be sure to use the check list I have included to make sure that you don’t skip a step.
