11/2/2017 What’s Happening in Class!
Dear Parents,
Tomorrow is a half day so your child will be going home at 11:45.
Writing:
Students had a writing assignment on what they know about the three state branches of government. They had a lot of class time to work on their writing.
Spelling:
5th grade has 5 times each
4th grade also has 5 times and their online work
Language:
Read for 20 minutes and summarize.
They should be writing the date and what they wrote about.
Math:
Both 4th and 5th took their test. Many students should study to look over their test. Some students did not care to study at all and they are accountable for their grade. If they have to retake the test they will get the average of both tests. They should be going on Moby Max Math for at least 15 minutes. They should be studying their Math Facts for 10 minutes.
Science and Social Studies:
Both subjects is on Moby Max and your child should spend about 15 minutes for each subject.
Thank you,
Ms. Mosed
School Survey!!
Thank you for coming to the parent meeting! I hope you gained some valuable information to help your child with reading at home. I am always available anytime after school if you have questions or concerns. Or you may email me at moseda1@dearbornschools.org
Please take a look at the following announcement. Please take the online survey by clicking on the link. Thank you for all you do!
This survey consists of two questions to collect parent feedback on the possibility to pilot year-round school concept in one or two elementary schools. One of the arguments for year-round schooling is that children will have better knowledge retention versus having too much of a mental break in the summer. School calendar would be extended to include additional four weeks in the summer. Please click on the link to share your feedback: https://goo.gl/forms/vtnCmpKQYcd6Q4jK2

- You will be reading 40 (or more) books this year (beginning 9/7/17) and keeping track of the titles and genres on your Reading List sheet.
- You will be reading from a variety of genres in order to explore books you might not ordinarily read, and to develop an understanding of literary elements, text features, and text structures.
- Books that have been read (or will be read) in class cannot count, even if the student re-reads the book.
- Students may ask the teacher, librarian, classmates, or their families for recommendations, but there are no specific title requirements
- Any book with more than 200 pages will count as 2 books.
- All books are selected by the student.
- Select good fit books at your reading level. Use your DRA book graph as your guide and NWEA reading RIT score.
- Use your Reading notebook to respond to your reading.
- Each quarter you will be asked to present a “book talk” in front of the class for a grade.
- Each week I will ask you about what you are reading, which books you have added to your list, which books you abandoned, and which ones you plan to read next.
- Every Friday, you will turn in a completed Reading List.
