Hello Howard Families, the Howard resource staff is excited to offer a parent math meeting on Tuesday March 26th from 8:45-9:45 a.m. in the library.

We will be discussing the Eureka math curriculum, and providing families with helpful resources and tips for at home implementation.

Week of March 18th

Reading

We will be identifying text types: storybooks, fiction/nonfiction, poetry. We will listen and visualize a story. We will learn how to ask and answer a question. We will learn about point of view.

Spelling words: (-it) kit, pit, sit, fit, hit, him, his, little

Language Arts

We are learning the r-blends (dr-, wr-). Sight words: his, him, little

Writing

We will be write a narrative piece. We will write about going to the park. Who is going with you? What did you do first? What did you do next? What did you do then? What did you do last?  

Math

We will practice subtraction and addition. We will also revisit missing addend. We will fill in number bonds. We will compose and decompose number 9,10. We will introduce a number in a 5 group ie. 6 is 5 and 1 more., 9 is 5 and 4 more.

Social Studies

We will continue to learn about maps and globes. we will compare them. We will navigate a map using cardinal directions

We will be identifying story elements in fictional stories. We will identify the characters, setting, problem, solution and BME of a story. We will review prediction. We will also explore character traits.

Spelling words: (-ab) crab, tab, lab, grab, put, with, play

Language Arts

We are learning the r-blends (dr-, fr-). Sight words: put, with, play

Writing

We will be write a narrative piece. We will create 3 characters and a setting. Your child will come up with a problem and solution.

Math

We will practice subtraction. WE will draw pictures, write equations and solve word problems.

Social Studies

We will continue to learn about maps and globes. We will review concepts such as: key, symbols, compass rose and cardinal directions: N,S,E,W

We will review missing addend with numbers for 0-8. We will review addition and subtraction within word problems. We will write equations that will match the word problem.
