Week of December 17th, 2018

Wow! The 2018 year is coming close to an end. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and family together time! Check out what we are covering this week:

Reading: Gingerbread man, Gingerbread girl, Gingerbread boy, Gingerbread baby, All about Gingerbread. We will discuss retelling with each story. We will compare each story and figure out what is the same and what is different.

Sight words: said, for

Letter of the week: Jj

Phonemic strategy: CVC using short vowel e and u. Examples include: pet, bed, pen, bug, cup, cut

Writing: We are learning about opinion writing. We will state a story we liked and why. We will also state what we liked to do this weekend and why.  We will practice our special word because to help state and write the reason why we like something.

Math: We learn more about volume. We will explore the idea of area. We will get unifix cubes and fill out square tiles given and count the area it takes up.

Social Studies: We will review trade and how to exchange. We will discuss timelines. Your child will have a timeline project to complete over break.

Reminders:

  • Your child will receive a winter practice packet today. This is just a reinforcement tool to practice what we reviewed thus far. It will be due on Monday, January 7th.
  • Congratulations to our kindergarten class. They won cleanest class during lunch and won hot chocolate with Mrs. Claus this week.
  • Last day for school is Friday, December 21st. 2018. We will return after the break on Monday January 7th, 2019.
