Just a few updates…

Going home today is the field trip permission slip. It is due September 23rd. Some of you will also be getting a chaperone form that has to be returned with a copy of your driver’s license ASAP.

Also going home for some students is a Household Information Form.  These need to be returned ASAP.

PTA flower fundraisers are due tomorrow. The last page and money are due. No late orders will be accepted.

Don’t forget to sign up for the PTA. Get those forms sent in! Please attend our first PTA meeting this Thursday.

There has been some discussion about the student dress code. Per the handbook, students should dress modestly and avoid distracting influences. Shorts should go past students fingertips when arms are at their sides and no bare stomachs should be shown. Please let me know if you have any questions about this.

Hello Families!

Welcome to the third week of 2nd Grade!  This is going to be a very busy week for us.

What we are doing this week:

  • Begin NWEA and DRA Testing.
  • Continue practicing and learning our classroom procedures and routines.
  • In Math, we will continue reviewing number bonds and adding 10s.
  • In ELA, we will be reviewing short vowels, making connections with stories, and writing about what we are reading.

On Friday, I sent home work that we had been working on last week.  If your child needed to complete some of their work, please send it in the Daily Folder on Monday.

Homework:

My goal is to send home meaningful work that will enhance the skills that we are learning during the school day.  Homework should not last longer than 20 to 30 minutes.

  • Math Homework will be sent home Monday- Thursday. The math homework each night will directly relate to the math lesson that we completed that day.  Your child will need to hand in their math homework the following day.

Math Homework will begin this week.

  • Word Work Homework will be sent home Monday- Thursday.  The word work that I will send home will relate to our phonics skill each week (spelling words).
  • Reading Homework will be sent home Monday- Thursday. The reading homework will also relate to our phonics skill of the week. Reading homework will be differentiated to your child’s specific needs.

Word Work and Reading Homework will begin after I have finished assessing students.  I will also send a detailed description of what your child needs to do to complete the word work and reading homework that is being sent home.

I will send home all completed work on Fridays. Students should be using their time in school participating in whole group, small group, and independent work.  If your child is not completing their work because they aren’t using their time wisely, I will send it home to be completed that night and they should return it the next day.

Specials:

Monday- Music

Tuesday- Enrichment and Art

Wednesday- Media

Thursday- Gym

Friday- Music

Our class will begin Second Step on Mondays with our School Social Worker, Mrs. Mallory.  Second Step is a program that takes a holistic approach to social-emotional learning (SEL) and brings compassion into the classroom.

Reminder:

  • Friday, September 16th, is a half day.  We will be dismissing at 12:05 pm.  We will not have lunch at school on Friday, but we will still have snack.

Allergies:

I know that some of my students have a food allergy.  Some families have not let me know yet if their child is allergic to anything.  On the back of the “Getting to Know Your Child,” there was a section about allergies.  I do not think that some were aware there was a back side to that sheet.  If you could please email ASAP and let me know if your child has any serious allergies that I need to be aware of.

We do have a nut allergy in our classroom.  So please send in appropriate snacks and treats.

Have a great week!
