End of the Week News

Hello Families!

We finished our first full week of school!

Starting next week, we will begin our lessons in Benchmark. Going home today in your child’s blue Daily Folder, will be next week’s Spelling Words and High Frequency Words. Each Friday we will have a Spelling Test of all 10 Spelling Words. I will also pick 5 High Frequency Words that will also be on their Spelling Test. We will also have a Reading Quick Check each Friday- this is a quick quiz over the reading skills that we will have worked on during the week.

On Monday, students will be getting Math and Reading Homework nightly, expect for Fridays. No Homework over the weekend. For Reading Homework, students will be given a fluency passage that will have our phonics skill of the week. Students will need to read it nightly 3 times and then have a parent sign. On the back of their fluency passage will be 4 questions. Students are to complete 1 question a night (questions are labeled so students know which question to complete which day). Reading Homework will go home Monday and should be returned on Friday. Math homework will stay the same as this week.

Also starting on Monday, students will be getting a Daily Check-In each night. The Daily Check-In is between you, me, and your child. Please review the Daily Check-In and sign it.

2nd Grade is very different than 1st grade. Classwork will be getting much harder and more rigorous. To begin the year, we will be completing most things in whole group so students know and understand the work expectation. They will be expected to complete work on their own after a few weeks. This being said, if students do not use their time wisely in class, incomplete work will go home at the end of each day to be completed and returned the next day.

Going home in your child’s blue Daily Folder today is work that we have been completing the past week.
