At Home Learning

During these unprecedented times we are doing our best as a district to navigate how instruction will be provided moving forward.

One of the biggest things we work on throughout the day is attending to instruction and choice making.  You can reinforce these skills at home by providing your child opportunities to make choices (show them two different books and have them select the one they would like to read, give them two options for a snack and let them chose, have them select from two different toys which they would prefer, etc.)  Furthermore, we use the core vocabulary communication board throughout our day to communicate and make choices as well. Allowing your child to have access to the their core vocabulary board increases their familiarity with it as well as provides them opportunities to communicate with you.

Each student will be receiving a packet via mail (packets are being mailed Monday, March 16th).  These packets include familiar work, a core vocabulary board and ideas to enhance movement and communication skills.  These tasks can be done with your support. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and/or concerns (roskelm@dearbornschools.org)!

Weekly Newsletter- March 9th-13th

We started the week off with fun activities about shamrocks and leprechauns in preparation for St. Patrick’s Day. We applied our measuring skills again and made green Slime! For Math we had a class discussion on measuring and used our math cube manipulates to measure some pictures. The kids really enjoyed using building blocks to build tall towers and see who had the highest tower. However, I believe the kids favorite part was when they got to knock over the tower! We wrapped up our science weather unit with our weekly scholastic newsletter which focused on the different weather. This weeks book of focus was The Old Lady who Swallowed a Clover. The students loved finding out about the different objects that silly old lady swallowed this time! The kids then created a summary sentences and choice while item they would swallow if they were the old lady.
