Tuesday Activities

Start the morning out with Mrs. Melissa for our Daily Morning Meeting.

If we were at school today we would have Music. Check out Ms. Harden’s blog for music activities and live music class sessions. The videos below are some songs the kids really enjoy while in her class.

Tuesdays are our group days with Ms. Dawn and Ms.Emily. Ms. Dawns word for the week is WANT. Watch these videos and try along to use the core board as a communication tool.

Check out the post below from Ms. Emily’s, our OT, blog for some great activities. Today I want you to try and have some fun while playing. Ms. Emily shared this awesome video that shows how to incorporate and educational aspect while playing.

One way to encourage educational play at home is with a sensory bin. Since our spring weather is finally hear and Mr. Sun keeps coming out to play it would be nice to get outside and have some water play. You can fill a large container with water, add some soap for bubble play, add food coloring if you have it, and little objects or toys from around the house! Let the kids explore by splashing in the water, making bubbles, and finding toys that are hidden at the bottom of the bin. If you cant get outside you can make a sensory bin that appropriate for inside play. Instead of water, soap, and food coloring use dry or cooked pasta, dry beans, or uncooked rice to hide the toys in a bin. Once your child find the hidden objects you can count them or talk about its attributes such as the shape or color.

Monday Activities

Start the day off with Mrs.Melissa for the Morning Meeting. This week I am going to add a flexible suggested schedule for the day!

Have some fun today by creating a craft together! You need a couple different colors of tissue paper, glue, and the flower print out ( or you can draw flower if you cant print). 1st take tissue paper and cut out little squares. 2nd pick a color of paper and bunch it up. 3rd glue the bunched up paper to the flower part. Continue steps 1-3 until your flower is completely covered. If you don’t have tissue paper or glue at home don’t worry! Instead have the kids color the flower with crayons, markers, or colored pencils. When you click on the image below it will open a link to print out the flower. Make sure you share a picture of your finished flower picture with Mrs. Melissa in the comments section.

After lunch try and get some exercise. On Monday afternoons at school the kids have gym with Mr. Borg. Try this fun activity at home with the kids and encourage movement by showing them what to do.

Outdoor or indoor activity

Posted on

2 person parachute – use a large bath towel and have the kids hold both sides of one end.  Use a few items (not breakable) and have them try to flip them from the towel into a bucket, hoop, trash can, etc.

Join in on some fun during story time with Mrs. Melissa. Today’s story involves some search and find, along with counting!

Continuing Education Announcement

Please see the announcement linked below made by our districts superintendent, explaining our new plan for continuing education while the stay at home order is in place.

https://superintendent.dearbornschools.org/2020/04/17/students1stdbnschs-dearborn-public-schools-releases-learning-for-rest-of-year/

In summary, school will continue remotely at home with parents support. Students are expected to continue education by completing activities provided by the teacher via the blog and work packets that will be mailed to your house each week. If your child needs a Chromebook laptop to access my blog, which will contain information for their daily activities, please let me know this week. You can contact me through email, or by phone (roskelm@dearbornschools.org, (734)536-9994).

Starting this week, and following into the future, I will be reaching out a couple times each week for guidance, support, and feedback on students work. I will also continue posting on my blog daily, creating videos to share with the kids, sending work packets home in the mail, and offering live sessions to provide direct instruction.

I know and understand that it has been so hard on you and the kids being stuck at home everyday. I hope you find comfort in knowing that you are not alone and everyone is feeling this way. If we work together we can help the kids find some structure during these times with educational activities to keep them thinking, moving, creating, and practicing everyday life skills. Please remember that this is new and unknown for all of us. This new mode of learning will take some time and adjusting. We will work through the process together and slowly find our way to the remote learning that works best for your child.

I will be reaching out to everyone this week to explain in depth exactly what the plan is for continuing education remotely, and answer any questions or concerns that you may have. I know there has been a lot of big changes with life lately and you may be feeling overwhelmed. Please try not to worry or stress over these new changes that are coming, I am here for you and together we will work through this!

Wednesdays Activities

Start your morning out with Mrs. Melissa! We will talk about the day, month, date, season, weather, and have some fun listening to our favorite songs from class.

When we are at school we count multiple times throughout the day. Try working on counting activities like the ones posted below to allow for opportunities to work on number recognition, counting skills, and sorting! You can use snacks or toys when counting. Count by assisting your child in putting one goldfish into the first muffin spot, then do the same thing and count two goldfish and put in the second muffin spot, continue until all sports are filled with the correct number of snacks. If you don’t have a muffin tin try using an egg carton. Or, you can make a touch and feel visual counters. Write the number 1 and glue one object like a pom pom ball or sticker next to it, then continue to do the same thing with as many numbers as you can! Some days at school we count all the way to 100!

At school on Wednesdays we do our weekly Scholastic News. Here is the link which allows access to the website. Where it will read the entire newspaper and allows for educational games based off the topic at hand! The classroom password is : piemine5441. This weeks article is all about Plant Parts! If you are having trouble accessing the website you can use this template.

Join Mrs. Melissa in story time. Today includes a story about a lot of dragons, a party, and a boatload of TACOS!!! I hope you enjoy the story today!

Monday’s Activities

Hello boys and girls! I hope you had a nice Spring Break. My family and I spent a lot of time outside, reading, baking, and making crafts 🙂 Jameson loves making crafts so we have been trying to do a craft a day to help pass the time. I hope you all are finding daily things that bring you all joy!

Now that Spring Break is over its time to continue our remote learning from home! I miss you all so much and can’t wait for the day when I get to see everyone again.

On Mondays we start with our morning meeting, where we talk about the day, month, date, season, and weather. Watch the video below and enjoy the daily morning routine with Mrs. Melissa!

Once we complete our morning meeting we get ready for art! The kids enjoy working on their fine motor skills during art time. Earth day is coming up at the end of April so I have some fun Earth related activities. Tear up paper or tissue paper and make your own earth! Or work on the coloring page and talk about how to reduce, reuse, recycle!

After lunch we would have our story time. Tune into Mrs. Melissa’s story of the day with the video below!

Our final activity on Mondays is our favorite, gym class. The kids love having choice time and dunning around the gym! I know with the social distancing, and stay at home order it is hard to be active but try and get some sort of movement and activity today. The videos below are some music videos that we like to dance to in class.

Tomorrows Activities

Tomorrow is our last day before Spring Break! Every Friday we try and have a more relaxed and fun day. If we were at school tomorrow we would of have a Spring Break Party to celebrate all that we achieved this semester before our break! When we classroom parties we make and decorate festive cookies, play games, and complete fun activities!

A fun game you could do at home is an egg hunt. You can pack those plastic eggs with treats or fun tiny toys as a surprise for when they are found.

We would play some Spring Bingo! Searching for the matching picture is fun and always exciting when you get that BINGO!! Here is the Printable Bingo Cards, https://fun-squared.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Easterbingogamecards.pdf

We would go outside and do a Spring Scavenger hunt!

The kids love when we sing some fun songs and dance around together!

Fridays are also art days! We would have done some Spring time Crafts.
