Summer STEM

Summer is a great time of the year to create & explore.  Students in grades 3-5 will be bringing home their science journal as well as a Summer STEM Activity sheet. Cross off each activity you do from the choice board.  Make sure you plan out your project in your notebook and document what worked and what didn’t work.  Remember, scientists and engineers are always testing and redesigning their creations…don’t be afraid to make a mistake and try again!

I’d love to see what creative things you come up with!  Take pictures and email me or share with me using your Google Drive!

Check back weekly during the summer for a new challenge each week!

STEM Challenge Week

This week students created straw rockets in first grade.  Students tested their rockets and measured to see whose rocket went the furthest.

Second grade students engineered a better bubble wand.  Students worked together using straws and yarn to create a new bubble blower. Stay tuned next week when students will test their prototypes!

Shake it Off!

Today 4th graders worked with fractions as we followed recipes to make ice cream. While some teams were not as successful as others…we sure did have fun!

Feel like trying it at home? Here’s the recipe:

April Wrap-Up

April has been a busy yet fun month in Enrichment! We are learning many new math and science concepts, but most importantly we are becoming scientists and mathematicians.

Here’s what we’ve been learning this week:

4th grade classes changed a simple demonstration in to a science experiment by adding a new variable—which soda has a better reaction with Mentos candy?1st grade had mini math workshop! We practiced our addition skills playing Math Jenga!
2nd grade students explored the concept of area. We are in the process of making Area Robots.  Check back next week for the finished product!
