Busy Bees!

Wow! Even though today was a half day, our McDonald Panthers were as busy as bees!

4th graders did some prep work for next week’s activity and then reviewed their multiplication facts by playing Muliplication Top-It.

Ms. Aun’s class teamed up with Mr. Cook’s students to make some observations on the playground and to describe objects in terms of their properties.

Collecting Data

This week, 5th graders are studying motion.  Today’s exploration posed the question: Does a running start help you go farther?

After watching some video clips of several sports showing movement, students made their predictions and tested them out.

Here they are collecting their data:

Predictions & Observations

This week we practiced predicting skills.  Students were asked, “What do you think will happen when you put a Skittle in water?”

After making their predictions, students used the skill of observation and recorded their data in their science notebooks.

Here’s a look at what one group observed.  Do you see what happened?

This week, students in grades k-2 have been learning about tools that scientists use.

Ms. Shaheen’s class took their learning outside today. Here they are using magnifying glasses to explore nature!

Teamwork!

This week, our  4th and 5th graders are at camp.  Students that did not go to camp worked on a team building activity in enrichment.
OBJECTIVE: To work together to accomplish a difficult task without quitting or giving up.

Students did a wonderful job completing the task–some in under 2 minutes!

Week of September 14-September 18

This week, our 4th and 5th grade students are going over Enrichment procedures and safety.  We are also setting up our science notebooks.

Students in grades kindergarten through 3rd grade will read the book below and answer the question: What is a scientist? We will learn what scientists do and what tools scientists use.
