Intro to Art/ 6th grade LEGO figures

We’ve been studying about lines and shapes and how they are they building blocks of art. To prove this, students were tasked with creating a character that is visually recognizable. Students can only use lines, and shapes to begin their design. We then talked about how color is used in society to identify gender, occupations and various other identifications about people. Students then wrote to explain their choices and how effective those choices were.

How to Draw a Dinosaur

Here are a few in class demos of how to draw a dinosaur with simple shapes. This process is used for everything we do in class, as everyone can draw the simple shapes. It’s just a matter of putting the shapes together in the right place, and at the right size.

2D Art Class Pattern Designs

In this assignment, students are to create a large silhouette shape of their liking. They have to then use math to divide that shape into 12 – 20 equals parts. From there, students must create a unique patterns within each shape. The last step is coloring in each pattern with at least 2 colors to complete the patterned design project.

7th grade Ceramics

Ceramics are here at Smith! Our awesome 7th graders were given the opportunity to create functional ceramics that they could eat or drink out of. Their inspiration or objective was to create a gift for Mom or Dad for Mothers/ Fathers Day, or create a favorite animal or food as the jumping off point to create. When dry and fired, students were to paint the clay with food safe glaze so now they can eat/drink out of a vessel they made themselves. It’s great to see their faces when you show them the completed work. Now to get the art home without breaking…..IMG_1085 IMG_1086 IMG_1087 IMG_1088
