Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year
It has been a busy couple of days in Science this year. There are a few things I want to take some time to make sure everyone is on the same page.
Parents:
Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 14th is Open House. I ask that you please join us at 6:00 and take the time to meet your child’s teachers. You will be following there schedule as a means to meet all teachers in an organized manner.
I passed out my syllabus last week, but if it didn’t find its way to you, you can find a copy of it Here or ask for one during Open House and I will gladly give you a copy.
Students:
At this point in the year, you should have a number of assignments completed for me.
- You should have done a 3-2-1:
3 things about you, 2 things you did this summer, and 1 thing you want to learn in science.
2. You should have your Textbook Loan Agreement filled out.
If this is not done by Friday I will be asking for your textbook back.
3. Your Interactive Notebook should be filled out and setup.
If you did not have a composition notebook in class, or you did not finish setting your book up, the instructions can be found HERE (ISN Setup).

Homework for June 1st
First off, congratulations ladies and gentlemen you’ve made it to the home stretch of 7th grade. We are not done yet, you still have your weather journal and the presentations next week which make up a large portion of your 6th card marking grade.
For the weather journal, please make sure you are filling that out daily! If you miss a day, you cannot go back and add the weather for that day as the weather is no longer there. That is worth a total of 36 formative points, and will make up the majority of your formative grade for this card marking.
For the class work today: A number of you were asking me to put the short answer question on the blog so you could work on it at home. Your wish is my command.
“You were in a rush this morning and only heard the news reporter say there is a cold front moving in. What type of weather could you expect for the rest of the day?”
This worksheet is due tomorrow in class!
To those of you in band and choir: Good luck tonight, I’m going to try my hardest to make the concert!

Pollution/Water Cycle Quiz
Hey class,
I know I told you I would put the correct answers to the guided reading up today. However, after thinking about the extra credit incentive I decided against giving you the answers. To still make sure you have the information, we will briefly spend time at the beginning of class going over the guided reading.
For tonight, I would recommend you look over the pollution guided reading (especially questions you out a star near), the sheet you read with me today, as well as section 1.4 and 2.1 in your text books!
See you tomorrow,
Mr. Bailey

Section 1.3 Study Guide
Hey everyone,
I looked through your questions you came up with and they were impressive!
I compiled a list of important ones that I wanted to give you to test yourself.
There will be two documents, one without answers and another with the correct answers.
I encourage you to work through This study guide first.
Once you have gone through the quiz, check your answers Using this answer sheet.
Email me with any question, although I might be slow to respond because Saturday is my wedding shower!
Have a great weekend,
-Mr. Bailey

Life Science Post Unit Quiz
Before we began our Life Science unit (about 3 months ago) I had you show me what you knew about different concept in life science. You were asked to answer three writing prompts to the best of your ability. Truth is, you didn’t all do excellent, but that’s okay because you hadn’t learned those concepts yet!
Well, these questions will be making a comeback tomorrow as part of you post-unit assessment for Life Science. Instead of writing a few sentences for all three questions, you will choose one question to write a short paper about in class.
Because you will be selecting a question, I wanted to give you a chance to see them ahead of time. Take a look at the questions below and decide which one you feel the most confident about writing a response to.
- Describe 4 parts of a cell and their function
- Describe the process in which plants make their own food
- Explain how characteristics are passed form parent to offspring.
I’ll see everyone tomorrow! Please remember your Life Science books, you will be turning them in tomorrow (for real this time, I promise).

Thursday, March 24th, 2016
Hello everyone,
Well, you made it, it is Spring Break! A couple of quick housekeeping things to update you on.
*STUDENTS ABSENT 3/24/16*
You have a Mitosis Quiz to make up. This can be done online and open note. To find the quiz, please follow these steps.
- Log on to iLearn
- Click on “Bailey 7th Grade Science.”
- Scroll down to find the “MITOSIS” quiz.
- Begin the quiz.
- When you finish, please send me an email with your score, preferably as a screenshot
*EVERYONE*
Your scores are updated in the Gradebook. There may be a few formative points that will get uploaded over break, but nothing that will drastically change your grade.
If you are panicked about your overall grade after today’s quiz remember, this was the first Summative grade for the 5th card marking, so it will change your grade a large amount. We still have 4 weeks, there will be more summative points, and you can retake if needed after break.
Please, don’t worry too much about your grade over the break. It is a break for a reason. If you are traveling, have fun and be safe.
Enjoy your break and enjoy your Easter!
See everyone in April!
-Mr. Bailey
