Bringing Technology to the Classroom

Hello families,

Today was an extremely awesome day in class. We were chosen as one of the classrooms in the district to test a new program called Google Expeditions.

Google Expeditions is a classroom program that utilizes the Google Earth photographs to allow students to see places all over the world as if they were actually there! Today, we visited places such as Egypt, The Great Barrier Reef, Venice, The Congo, London, and Mt. Everest.

How does it work?

Each student had a phone that was inside a set of goggles. The students could look through the goggles to see the photograph on the screen, but they were not ordinary photos. Each photo was a 360 degree panoramic photo of the area we were “visiting.” As the students turned their heads, they could see other parts of the picture as if they were actually there!

The students seemed to enjoy themselves, and the learning potential is almost limitless. So I would like to take a moment to thank the Dearborn Public Schools, and Google, for allowing us the opportunity to test out this amazing program!

*Here is a short video of the program, unfortunately you cannot see what the students see, but the joy is genuine*

Atom Quiz Study Guide

Hey class,

I did what I could to create a study guide for tomorrow’s quiz. The main focus should be the parts of an atom, and using the periodic table to find characteristics of an Atom. Both of these are included in the study guide.

As always, email me with any questions.

See you tomorrow,

For students:

Nice work on your timelines ladies and gentlemen, they all turned out extremely well. I will aim to have them graded by class time tomorrow!

Your homework tonight is to create an illustrated dictionary for our next set of words in Section 1.2. This section has some vocabulary that I am choosing not to cover at this time, so please only focus on the first four vocabulary words starting on Page 88:

Proton

Atomic mass Unit

Neutron

Atomic number

For parents:

As I wrote above, the students worked incredibly hard on their History of the Atomic Theory timelines. I will have some pictures posted as soon as I finish grading them!

Have a wonderful day,

Mr. Bailey

Great job in today’s debate everyone. Most of you were able to bring in depth discussions and ideas about your chosen scientist. Remember, science is more than just being right or wrong, it is about using other ideas to try to discover new information. This was something all of our Atomic Theory scientists were able to do well.

Your homework today:

Pg. 87 Numbers: 4-6

Do this on page 17A underneath yesterday’s homework, please.

I will see everyone tomorrow!
