Practice Questions for Wednesdays Test
Hey everyone,
Just a reminder, you have a test on Wednesday on Section 1.2 (Physical Properties) and Section 1.3 (Chemical Properties).
A number of students have asked if I am going to give a practice test, I am not. Instead, I wanted to provide you with a number of sample questions to help you practice preparing. These are found in your text books!
Physical Properties Page 15:
1-3, 5-8
Chemical Properties Page 21:
1-2, 4-5, 8
Chapter Review Page 24:
1, 5, 10-11, 13, 16, 22-25
This is not a homework assignment and this is not being collected. It is simply a set of optional questions for you to specify what you need to know. You can do as much, or as little, as you feel you need to do.
Have a great night,
Mr. Bailey

So everyone, here are some updates going into the weekend.
Homework:
Your homework is the Guided Reading for Section 1.3. I cannot provide a copy of this through the blog, if you need it you must email me! This is due Monday and it is incredibly important that you have it done by then.
Physical and Chemical Changes Test:
Your test for Physical (1.2) and Chemical (1.3) will be on Wednesday of next week, November 16th. We will be reviewing on Tuesday but I encourage you to look things over before then. I have been asked if I will give a study guide, I will try to provide some practice questions for you on Monday!

Take The Survey, Name Our Gecko!
Ladies and gentlemen,
The moment finally arrived! Now all it needs is a name.
You have worked to come up with a list of names, now we need to vote!
Keep in mind, this Gecko could potentially stay with me fore over 10 years. While a name may seem funny now, that may not be the case next year, or even next week!

Homework Assignment for 11/2/16
Homework
Continue your Double-Entry Journal (you may use page 14B).
Do an entry for the following (pages 14 and 15):
“Physical Changes Do Not Form New Substances”
“Examples of Physical Changes”
“Matter and Physical Changes”
You do not need to do the sections on page 12 and 13
In class on Monday, we did a double-entry journal for pages 10 and 11. Today you are continuing with the DEJ on pages 14 and 15. This is to be done on the same pages of your ISN form Monday. If you were absent, this is the guideline for doing a double-entry journal. It should look similar to below.

Homework, Retakes, and Geckos
Hello everybody!
I just wanted to give an update on some general classroom events.
Students
Do not forget to do your homework for tonight. You need to complete the process from today’s lab on some object at your home. I am looking for something creative here. Please, don’t just do paper or pencil, think of something new. One idea, we only did solids in class today, perhaps you would like to try a liquid? Just attempt something that we couldn’t find and test in class. Your homework is on the back of today’s lab sheet!
Section 1.1 Retakes
The retakes for this test are happening today and tomorrow. If you did not make it to today’s session you MUST come tomorrow after school!
Parents
It was a pleasure to meet many of you at conferences. I am always happy to be able to discuss progress in the class, and share some of the activities we have been working on. Please feel more than welcome to contact me about progress throughout the year. No sense designated only one day out of the whole school year for that!
To end this post, I would like to share the good news. I am going to be stopping at PetCo on my way home from work to hopefully pick up our Gecko! Ideally it will be in the classroom tomorrow.
*I do not promise this, in the event I cannot get the Gecko, just know that I tried!*

Density Virtual Lab
This post is primarily for 0 Hour students. Today in class, we worked through a virtual density lab. The purpose of this lab was to begin to explain exactly what Density is and how it relates to an object’s Mass and Volume.
You can find the website HERE
While working through this website, you will need to fill out the lab sheet that goes along with it.
You can find the lab sheet HERE.
Take your time, read through, slow down and try your best.
Please contact me with any questions you may have!

October 19, 2016
Students,
I just wanted to remind you (and parents too) that the grade reflected in your student connect is NOT your 1st card marking grade, nor is it your 2nd. That is your current year long grade (first day-today) in class. The reason for this is so your parents can have more of an idea of how you are performing in class overall. Your report card will show you your first card marking grade, and those should be going home by next week (I believe during conferences).
Also, don’t forget to do your THIEVES section preview for Section 1.2 “Physical Properties” starting on page 10 in your text book. Do this on a separate sheet, not in your ISN. If you need to be reminded on what to include, check the appendix of your ISN.

October 13, 2016
Hello everyone,
A couple of updates that I wanted to get out to you!
EVERYONE
Tomorrow, Friday, October 14, is a half day for all students. Dismissal is at 11:05.
I am excited to announce that Ms. Duquette and I have both been approved for a Pets in the Classroom Grant. This grant will provided with a 50% off Leopard Gecko, and a habitat for no cost!
STUDENTS
Your homework assignment is an illustrated dictionary for section 1.1 Vocabulary:
Matter
Volume
Meniscus
Mass
Weight
Inertia
Fold a sheet of paper into 6 equal parts. Each section should include the Vocab Word, a Scientific Sentence using that word, and a picture that illustrates the word.
ADVISORY
Please continue to bring in gently used shoes! We are currently in the lead (28), but other classes are quickly catching up!
We also are starting a canned food drive with Dearborn High School, let’s help those who are less fortunate and donate some cans.
Lastly, tomorrow is your last day to turn in 2 Eagle Etiquette slips, or $1, to participate in Donuts and Cider on Wednesday, October 19th.

Homework for October 6th
Hey students,
Here is the graduated cylinder sheet that was handed out toward the end of class. Remember, we look at the bottom of the meniscus when measuring liquid volume.
