Here are the assignments for week 4:

Reading: 

  • Read for 30 minutes per day.  (If you don’t have a novel at home, check out Storyline Online or Epic)
  • Readworks–  One article and question set per day. Click sign-in with Google. I have assigned you 3 articles to read and answer questions about. Please complete one each day. These will be graded and returned on Google Classroom. 
  • Listen to our class read aloud every day: Fourth Grade Rats 

Math:

  • Watch video for lessons 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 Unit 5 Video Tutorials. One lesson video per day.
  • Module 5 Book Link
  • After watching each day’s lesson video on the link above, complete the matching lesson on Zearn. One lesson per day.
  • Once finished with the Zearn lesson, complete the matching lesson homework in the Succeed Math Book. (**If you did not come into school to pick up your succeed book, copies of the lesson homework are attached to this page to complete.)
  • Additional practice if wanted: Freckle

Project Based Learning:

  • We’re going on a virtual road trip to 3 National Parks! This is a self-paced activity.  You will find all the information on this project in Google Classroom! It is due on April 24.
  • There are three parts to this project
    • Research: You will need to research information on the three parks you would like to visit.
    • Report: You will need to summarize the information in Google Slides
    • Present: You will be making a travel brochure that documents the national parks you visited virtually! (in Google Slides)

Reading:

  • Read from a novel for 30 minutes each day.  Summarize what you read each day in your notebook using character names, settings, and details from the story. (If you don’t have a novel at home, check out Storyline Online or Epic (see link at the bottom for Epic) 
  • Common Core Ready Book: Pages 242-247.  Read passages and answer questions in book (if you do not have this book at home, the pages have been attached here)
  • Scholastic News Learn at home lessons for 20 days.  Read the articles and complete assignments for days 11-15.  Pick the most interesting article for each day and write a summary of the article and answer the questions.  Type your responses into ONE Google Doc for the entire week and submit it on Friday on Google Classroom under the title “Scholastic News Assignment”.

Writing:

  • This is your writing prompt this week:
    • The world can be a little scary right now, so I want to take this week to focus a little bit on what we are feeling.  It’s important to talk about what we are feeling. What makes you feel worried? What makes you feel hopeful? What are you thankful for right now?
    • You don’t need to use a blueprint, but try to have each question be one paragraph, as well as an introduction paragraph and a conclusion paragraph (so 5 paragraphs total)
  • Complete this writing in Google Docs, and submit on Google Classroom under the heading Week 3 Writing Assignment

Science:

  • You are going to complete this lesson on fossils and dinosaurs: Fossils

Social Studies:

  • Watch this video about the U.S. constitution on Brainpop
  • Then check out this video about the Census 

Art/Music:

  • Make sure you check your Google Classroom page for art and music to complete those assignments

  • Watch video for lessons 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 Unit 5 Video Tutorials. One lesson video per day.

    • The author of the Pigeon series, Elephant & Piggie, & Knuffle Bunny, is doing a daily lunch time drawing series during this time.  If you’re looking for an extra fun activity to engage your student, please check this one out!

    • All students now have access to a huge digital library.  Parents have received an email to set up access (all you have to do is enter your email address and your student will have access).  Please let me know if you need me to resend the email.     • Storyline Online has some great stories to check out. Choose 5 stories online and write a summary that includes the theme, character traits, plot, setting. One assignment per day.
    • Scholastic News Learn at home lessons for 20 days.  Read the articles and complete assignments for days 1-5.
    • Readworks–  One article and question set per day. Click sign-in with Google. I have assigned you 5 articles to read and answer questions about. Please complete one each day. These will be graded and returned on Google Classroom.
  • Math
    • Watch video for lessons 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Unit 5 Video Tutorials. One lesson video per day.

    • Complete 15 minutes of Freckle math practice per day.  
  • Writing 
    • Prompt of the Week- Is it better for students to learn online or at school?
      • Print and fill out the blueprint answering the prompt. Blueprint 
      • Click the Opinion Writing link on Google Classroom and type your writing in that doc. This paper is due Monday, March 23. It will be graded and returned on Google Classroom. This rubric shows how it will be graded. Grading Rubric
    • Make sure you are working on previous writing assignments and submitting those as well (Rainforest writing, Theme Story, Snow Writing)
  • Social Studies
    • Check out this branches of government video on Brainpop
      • (If you need login information, the username is haighelem, password is bpop)
    • Then learn about how a bill becomes a law here
  • Science
    • Mystery Science- How do germs get inside your body? Watch the video. Use some of this information in your opinion writing assignment for an extra bonus point.
  • Art
    • Art assignments will be given through google classroom. Classroom.google.com Please make sure you sign up for the “specials” course, EXAMPLE: Sellers Specials 19-20.  
    • Art assignments will be given once each week on Wednesday. Make sure you are signed up no later than Monday, March 16. Keep those creative minds working!
