Hi Parents!

I am going to have Math Module 5 books available during your pick up time if you want to take those. That is the only thing from my room that I am going to have out to pick up and take home. Please read the directions from Ms. Tiba below

Dear Parents,

This week we will be offering a pick-up of some instructional material your child’s teacher has prepared.  The prepared material will vary from class to class and your child’s teacher will let you know what you will need to pick up, if anything. To avoid large crowds and provide an opportunity for families with multiple children, the pick up will happen based on the first letter of your last name.

On Tuesday, May 5 from 1-3 pm, the pick-up will be for families whose last name starts with the letter A-M.  And on Wednesday, May 6 from 1-3 pm, will be for families whose last name starts with N-Z.  The materials will be set up on the South playground (where K-2 lineup).

The material will be placed on carts by grade level and teacher name. We ask that parents come alone with a mask, stand in line until they are asked to come forward and collect their children’s materials from the carts.  We kindly request that you just grab the top book and do not shuffle through them and as always practice safe distancing.  There will be cones and tape on the floor to also help guide the flow.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Stay safe,

Ms. Tiba

Happy Monday Everyone! I hope everyone enjoyed the weather this weekend- I spent a lot of time doing yard work and I even got a little sunburned!

Here is a look at our day today:

There is no spelling or grammar this week. I decided to take a break on that to focus more on reading group work and the reading activity we have this week.

Writing

-Please make sure you turn in the final copy of your opinion writing. I will be giving you feedback on it today. There is no other assignments for writing today. We are starting informational writing tomorrow.

Math

Please make sure to take the math quiz from Friday on Google Classroom. That was your assignment instead of doing a lesson and turning it into me.

Also, make sure to send me a picture of the home activity you did with your family this weekend. That was also part of the assignment, not just for fun. You could have played a game I posted or made up something else that related to fractions.

Today, we are going to be doing Module 5 Lesson 11. We are going to be showing equivalent fractions on a number line.
Assignment:
1. Optional: Watch the Eureka math video while trying the homework, check your answers with the answer key.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAA2IwfU7Wg
2. Watch the virtual lessons from Great Minds.
https://gm.greatminds.org/en-us/knowledge-for-grade-4-em-m5l11
3. Problem Set. Must do: 1 a,b,c 3 a,b,c. Turn in by Tuesday
Don’t forget to try and hit TURN IN on Google Classroom so it does not show up as missing.

Reading

I decided that we are going to take a break from Readworks this week. I noticed that we are struggling a little bit with cause and effect and we didn’t get a huge chance to cover it in school, so we are going to practice that while we do another READING MYSTERY!
Assignment:
1. Watch this video to learn what the mystery is going to be about. It is called Once Upon a Crime.
https://www.jjresourcecreations.com/once-upon-a-crime.html#/
https://youtu.be/PNN0NyLi8js (I put the Youtube version just in case the first link doesn’t work)
2. Get your suspect list ready and start with Clue #1!
I have either Google Slides you can work on or you can print/write on a piece of paper. If you use Google Slides- it has all 5 clues on it. That doesn’t mean all 5 are due on Monday- just solve one clue at a time until all 5 are done by Friday. The Google Slide version will be on Google Classroom.
3. Turn all 5 clues in by Friday and tell me who did the crime!

Reading Groups

I want you to focus a lot of time to reading groups this week. It is really important that you go on Raz Kids and do your assigned reading. Blue Group and Yellow group are still finishing up their books, so they are not assigned a book on Raz Kids yet.

If you get below an 8 out of 10 on the quiz on Raz Kids- I encourage you to keep taking it over and over until you get a passing score.

Blue Group– Read Holes Chapter 35-38. Do Chapter 36 Questions. I will post all of this and directions on Google Classroom today.

Hi Everyone!

I am hoping you are having a great weekend. The weather cannot be any better!

I decided to do our week at a glance calendar on a different calendar format. I figured this way you can use this calendar as a checklist- print it and hang it on the fridge! Whatever works! This is easier to read than my other one, but has less links. You will find all of the links daily on my blog and on Google Classroom.

Here is a look at our upcoming week:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/14mdCcBGTWy5X8y-lrfeTOJBBFZiZpnBwshPuPXJ0NOc/edit?usp=sharing

If you want it in black and white to save colored ink, here it is:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZJarRwIFolcoEYqhfue22BQYbX6tXjwCSITYWYKgnEo/edit?usp=sharing

I decided to not do Readworks this week and do another Reading Mystery since we loved that so much before!!
Only other change- I am going to read Wonder this week, but not require students to do questions and turn them in. I would rather you focus on reading group assignments and your reading mystery assignment!

Still not Google Hangouts/Meets as far as I know.

There is a possibility also this week that parents can pick up Module 5 math books- I will keep you updated on when and what times.

Please look over the calendar and I will post directions on Monday!

Hi Parents,

In the next couple hours, I will be sending a weekly progress report to you through email or remind. It will tell you what your child has completed this week and what is still missing.

Please note: I will not send you a progress report if your child has completed all the work for the week and has nothing missing so far. I just want you to refer to the Guardian Summaries on Google Classroom to look at everything they have done.

I figured it is easier to understand that if you get no progress report, that means they are all set. However, if you do feel like you want a progress report- just tell me and I would be happy to send one! It is just a list of what is turned in for the week, kind of like a checklist.

I will be sending them out today! Reach out to me with questions if you have any:) Enjoy your weekend!! The weather is going to be beautiful!

I can’t believe it is May! Here is a look at today:

-We have no new assignments today except for math, so I am going to post the math assignment and then make a list of all things due for today!

Math

-There is no new math lesson to do. I wanted to give a check math “quiz” today to see what you remember so far with fractions. It will be a Google Form that I post today on Google Classroom.
-There will also be some “at home” activities I am going to post that relate to fractions. Pick one or make up your own this weekend.
Game 1: Tangram Challenge
A lot of people have been painting tangrams on their windows or front doors. Who what have thought we can relate these to fractions! You can do a tangram in your house or just use the one on the sheet attached. It is a little confusing at first, that is why I want families to work together on it, but this is such a cool idea!

Game 2: Find the Fraction Model
This game is like memory match! You can even challenge yourself and set a timer and see if you can beat family members!

Game 3: Terrific Tar Heels
You can verse someone in your house and practice coloring fractions. The goal of the game is to completely color in your letter T and you win!

Pick one of these or do your own, send me a picture or email of it. The math quiz and game are due by Sunday.

Due Dates!

  • Math Module 5 Lesson 10 (Due yesterday)
  • Capitalization Activity Due Today
  • Science Mystery 4: Landslides and Mystery 1: Biceps Due Today
