This week, we have a busy week filled with reading and writing.
We will be applying what we know in our Nonfiction Text Feature notes to read a couple articles. The first was assigned over the weekend, and is from Time magazine.
Students were assigned to read, annotate, and identify reasons that ads SHOULD appear in schools, as well as reasons that ads SHOULD NOT appear in schools.
Then, they worked as a class to identify difficult words and read through the article together, making more sense of it for themselves the 2nd time around.
On Monday, they were assigned a partner to work with and to list on a T-Chart 3 quotes to explain why ads SHOULD appear in schools, as well as 3 quotes supporting that ads SHOULD NOT appear in schools.
On Tuesday, we will assign and annotate a second article, from Junior Scholastic Magazine, which provides pros and cons of school ads. Students will add to their list of evidence, and select the strongest viewpoint to write from.
Homework:
Monday: Read for 20 minutes and record 2 metacognitive reactions. Six reactions will be due Thursday. Finish listing 3 reasons ads SHOULD be in schools and 3 reasons that they SHOULD NOT. Study for Thursday’s test.
Tuesday: Read for 20 minutes and record 2 metacognitive reactions. Six reactions will be due Thursday. Read and annotate “Should Kids See Ads at School?” with 8 reactions per page. Also, underline 3 or more pieces of evidence in blue that support school ads, and 3 or more pieces of evidence in yellow that are against school ads. Study for Thursday’s test.
Wednesday: Read for 20 minutes and record 2 metacognitive reactions. Six reactions will be due Thursday. Make sure you and your partner have at least 6 pieces of evidence to choose from for each side of your argumentative CER paragraph. Study for Thursday’s test.
