Today, Thursday March 18th, at 1:30pm we will have our Kindergarten roundup meeting in the cafeteria. Please enter through Door #10 (cafeteria doors). The meeting will consist of an overview of Kindergarten expectations and registration requirements. Parents will receive informational packets and the required paperwork to be completed.
If you have a child who will be 5 years old by September 1st, please come in for this short informational meeting. Parents who have students born between September 2nd through December 1st are also encouraged to come in.

We practiced the letter Ll and used our bodies to create the shape of the letter Ll.We created the letter Ll with playdough!We brainstormed a list of words that begin with the letter Ll’s sound. This friend created a ladybug! We used our Benchmark books to read our poem about PEACE and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We circled all of the Lls!We love learning at school!Dr. Chochol visited us to read for March is Reading Month! We loved this visit and the story!!!We created 10 groups of 10 to make 100 as we stamped the tip of an eraser into paint.Making 10 groups of 10 was great practice for counting and concentrating as we exercised the muscles in our hands.I wish you all a Happy St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow!!!
We practiced making the letter Ll and brainstormed a list of words that begin with the letter Ll’s sound.We wrote identified the setting and our favorite character from the story Duck on a Bike by David Shannon! He is our featured author for this week during March is Reading Month.We identified 100 as ten groups of ten as we created these ten groups of ten by using an eraser tip and paint as a stamp!We are on a mission to catch the sneaky leprechaun for St. Patrick’s Day! We made leprechaun traps! We learned more about the colors of the rainbow in this project too! We discussed new vocabulary words for color words like violet and indigo.We used tear art t create our rainbows!We sorted 2D shapes by their shape!I am looking forward to a super week of learning and fun!
Tomorrow, I will see Group A on Zoom at 8:35! I will see Group B face to face at Oakman School at 9:30! Please remember that pick is 2:20 sharp at door 1! PLEASE remember to complete the Health Screener that is on Schoology before coming to school!
We will have a half day of school on Friday! Group B, who comes that day face to face can bring a healthy snack to eat! We will not have lunch at school that day since we will be dismissed at 12:45.
We have such a fun week and and fabulous end to the week! Next week are so excited to begin seeing each group two times a week face to face!!! YAY!!!!!

We have been featuring books by the author Laura Numeroff all week for March is Reading Month! Today we listened to two of her stories and practiced stating an opinion to tell which one is our favorite and why (a reason) that story is our favorite! The responses were so adorable! The children did such a great job stating their opinions!
We also practiced word by word match as we read a BM I read story. After reading the story together, we summarized the story by retelling through drawing and dictation what happened in the beginning, middle and end.

Next, they went to a parade, At the end, they went home and read a story.We practiced blending the onset (beginning sound) with the rime (the string of letters that follow the initial sound) for the word family -et.We listened to Jellybeans and the Big Book Bonanza by Laura Numeroff. We practiced comprehension by answering questions about the story. One of the questions the children answered through drawing. The question was, what was the girls’ favorite candy? The children drew and answered …… Jellybeans!!!! 🙂We practiced decomposing the number 10 to solve a word problem! We decomposed the number 10 in many ways as we broke apart our 10 tower into different groups of 2 behind our backs.We learned about how rainbows are formed with a Mystery Science video.We used a glass of water as a prism for the sunlight to shine through!We caught our rainbows on our white paper!We had so much fun catching rainbows together!Please remember to set your clocks ahead one hour tomorrow night before going to bed! We will enjoy longer amounts of daylight!!!

Today is thankful Thursday! I am so thankful for my students and that next week I get to see and teach my students in our classroom two days for Group A and two days for Group B!!! What are you and your child thankful for?

We determined if our Benchmark text about Thomas Edison was fiction or non-fiction! We said the text is non-fiction since we got informational facts about who Thomas Edison is and what he invented!
We also read a Benchmark emergent reader and did an interactive group writing activity. The children worked so diligently.
We wrote together and practiced writing conventions such as starting our sentences with an uppercase letter and ending our sentence with an end mark! We practiced rhyming words. this friend said spoon rhymes with moon.This friend says that house rhymes with mouse.we mixed and fixed the sight word; are!We solved the problem to tell how many more mice Mama Cat needed to feed her 10 kittens. She started with only 6 mice for her hungry babies….we solved to find our how many more she needed to feed them.We solved to find out how many more oranges Tim needed for his 10 friends. He only had 7. We solved to find out he needed 3 more oranges to give one to each of his 10 friends.Please remember, we are ALL on Zoom tomorrow!!! In honor of Women’s History Month, I listened to story about the remarkable Helen Keller! We discussed what it means to be blind We also learned that despite being blind, she wrote many books!!! To build empathy for those who are blind, I asked the children to write their names with their eyes closed to experience what they experience!We explained our engineered buildings! This friend told us he built a castle with pillows.During engineering time, this friend built a castle too, but with cups!During math, we practiced subtraction pretending our cubes are dinosaurs going to the watering hole. We drew the watering hole too as we acted out the scenario.We did narrative writing to tell about a time when we were mad in response to Mercer Meyer’s book, I Was So Mad.This friend wrote and told us that she was so mad when she had to leave her friend’s house.We went looking for 3D shapes in our houses. This friend found a cylinder (soup can).We created a number path as we learned to play the math game “One More”. The students rolled their dice, but their game piece on the number they rolled nd then moved it up one to tell what one more would be from the number they rolled!We practiced writing our numbers!Please remember, we are Zooming all together from home tomorrow, and Friday!!! We used our magnetic letters to mix and fix the sight word have.We used our playdough to make uppercase and lowercase Ww.We made uppercase and lowercase Ww and danced to the letter Ww Heidi Song!Mrs. Faraj zoomed in to read to us for March is Reading Month!!! (And, we got to got to see her adorable baby granddaughter!Here are some Group B friends making the letter Ww with their playdough!This friend made a whale because it starts with the sound of Ww.We discussed how special we are after a read aloud. Then we drew our self portraits! We used the mirror and the ELMO projector to see our eye color, hair color ,and features to help us draw what we look like. We drew our self portraits!We brainstormed words that begin with Ww. But…..we were not to sure what a whale was! So…..we watched a short informational video about these gigantic creatures! Mrs. Hansen brought Library check out to us!!! We got to borrow books! We also talked about how we take care of books as well as how to read the pictures in a book!Group B also mixed and fixed the sight word have!We also used have in a spoken sentence!Mrs. Peterson came to visit us and read a story!!! We got to see a picture of her adorable granddaughter too!!!Group B drew their self portraits too.We worked hard to make sure we added details to help our drawing look like we look!Here is a friend reading the pictures in his library book.

I am thankful for the incredible work and stamina the children displayed today on Zoom! We did a lot of learning, (and had tons of fun)! I am also thankful for spending time with my son, Ryan last night while playing a game.):) What are you thankful for?

We listened to the Dr. Seuss story, What Pet Should I Get. We drew and wrote to tell about our opinions of what pet we would get if we could have any pet in the whole wide world.This friend said she would like to choose a dog for a pet.
What Pet Should I Get? By Dr. Seusswe did a shared writing activity after reading our Benchmark story, Where is Dan?.We practiced touching the words as we read along together for the Benchmark story, Where is Dan?.We went on a hunt for rhyming pairs in our houses. This friend said star rhymes with car.We learned more about ending marks in writing sentences. We practiced writing a sentence that tells what we like! This friend wrote that she likes bananas!!!We used drawings and numbers bonds to answer a question about decomposing a group of 9 pennies into 2 pockets!We also used drawings and a number sentence to answer….how many basketballs were not colored orange out of a group of 9. (3 were colored orange)We mixed and fixed the sight word big when we cut apart the letters to build the word and read it.
We went on a virtual field trip to the airport!!!! We drew the aircrafts we learned about. We have two friends who will be flying back to United States in the next few weeks on big airplanes! 🙂 This friend drew one of the airplanes from our virtual field trip!Please remember, we are learning and Zooming from home tomorrow!! We have had an amazing week so far!!! Both groups got to come to learn at Oakman School! We also had a virtual day for all! So much learning, laughter, and fun! It is always so nice to see my students whether in person, (or as a student put it to me…. “real life”) or on Zoom!

(One of my personal favorites is Green Eggs and Ham!) We graphed our opinions today! Would you eat green eggs and ham? Guess what? It was almost a split decision! 6 said they would try green eggs and ham! 5 said they would not try green eggs and ham. 🙂 March is Reading Month as well!!1 We will be reading lots and lots of books together! Please respond to this post with the title of your child’s favorite book! I would love to know! Green Eggs and Ham, written by Dr. SeussGroup B got to play outside with sidewalk chalk!We are excited to be in our classroom!We are practicing how to subtract within 10.We looked at pictures and stretched to write the sounds we heard in the series of pictures!We made Elkonin boxes and practiced segmenting and blending sounds for the words that were pictured on the screen.One of our asynchronous assignments was to look in magazines and old mail to find the letters in our names!Another Asynchronous assignment was to draw to tell about our favorite part in Dr. Seuss’s Cat in the Hat.Happy Read Across America Day!We drew to answer a question from the Benchmark story today. How did Little Bear help the people in his village when they were sick? The children did an amazing job remembering the details in the story to answer this question!We practiced being engineers!Thank you, Dr. Seuss for all of the books that have helped children learn to rhyme and use their imaginations! We love rhyming words!We touched each number as we counted to 100!We wrote in our writing binders to tell which character we liked the best… the bear or the girl, after listening to Horrible Bear in Benchmark.We used our playdough to form uppercase D and lowercase d.We used our playdough to create something that begins the letter Ds’ sound… This friend made a dog!We say the Pledge of Allegiance everyday!See you on Zoom Tomorrow and Friday at 8:30, everyone!!! 🙂We are blessed to be getting a new student this week!!!!!
