This has been a great first week of remote learning! You all have made such a positive start to your child’s school year by helping them complete the activities and view my messages! Tomorrow and Monday there will be no school in observance of Labor Day! However, on Tuesday, please make time to go to Oakman School to pick up your child’s learning kit that I put together for them between 10:00 and 12:00.
In recognition of Labor Day, I have asked the children to draw and tell me what they dream of being when they are big! They can draw a picture of them as that occupation and say “When I get big I want to be a _____.”
I cannot wait to see what they draw and hear their little voices tell me what they want to be when they grow up! When my son was their age, he said he wanted to be a fire fighter! Now….he is achieving this dream!
I hope you all are well and having a great week so far!
If you have not picked up a Chromebook, please let me know. The students will need a computer for Schoology. Let me know how I can help. 🙂
Today we are talking about feelings. Your child’s feelings are so important to me. As their teacher, I want them to always know they can safely share their thoughts and feelings with me and even with their friends they make in our classroom family.
What a beautiful sunny morning it is to start off our day! Thank you to all of you who sent pictures and messages yesterday! Each one, put a smile on my face!
Today, I would like to get to know all of my students better by learning about who they live with in their family!
I live with my incredible son, Ryan and my 3 dogs; Khloe, Doodle, and Buttons. Here are some pictures of them…..
Ryan and I at a golf simulation place. He loves to golf! 🙂Khloe, Buttons, and Doodle!
Please draw a picture of who is in your family! Then, take a picture of it and you can email it to me or send it to whatsapp! This is how I will be taking attendance for today! mehrhok@dearbornschools.org

Review Lesson 1
The goal of this lesson is for the children to identify the number of syllables (or word parts) in a word. Then, they are asked to go on a scavenger hunt in the house for items that have 1, 2, 3, and 4 syllables.
This story was written by Allison Ryan! Many teachers would like to thank her for putting into words our feelings and thoughts about this very different school year! Thank you, Ms. Ryan!
After listening to me read her story, please help your child draw/write/tell about their favorite memory in Young 5s!

From the depths of my heart, I want to thank you for all of you done to help your child through this online learning! I want to thank you for your love and friendship! I especially want to thank you for allowing me to be your child’s teacher! I know, it can be hard to send our little ones off to school for the first time. Trust me, it see,s like yesterday I was outside of my son’s elementary school dropping him off for his first day! And….now, he is a licenced fire fighter! Time flies….so cherish each school year! Cherish each memory! Volunteer and attend each school event that you are able to attend! These moments are important to your child! Continue to take the time to read to them, color with them, play games with them…. Your child, as you are well aware, are precious gifts from God! May He continue to bless you all and keep you safe!
Remember, I am ALWAYS only a phone call away, my friends!
Thank you for all you do!
Love, Mrs. Mehrhof
Please read the touching and very thoughtful words from Mr. Abu-Rus! We have an outstanding leader and principal! Mr. Abu-Rus truly cares about each one of his students! We are very blessed to call him, Principal of Oakman Elementary School!
Here is his message!
“There are times in each of our lives that mark particularly special occasions. Today is such an occasion. Today you can say I’ve finished my elementary school phase!
Here at Oakman Elementary, you took the first of many important steps in your lives. Here you have learned skills and developed talents. Those skills and talents will be the foundation for whatever you achieve or learn in the future. You will build on them and find out many more fascinating things about you and life surrounding you. The skills you have mastered here will last you for the rest of your lives.
Today is a special day for you and for your family. Today you have every reason to be proud of all the skills you have mastered because with them you will be able to succeed in doing even more. I don’t know what the future holds for you! Yet I have no doubt that each and every one of you has the potential to do something special with your lives. You see, each one of you is already a very special and unique person! While you have been here, you have learned not just math, science and the other subjects; you have begun to learn and to take part in the society around you. You have learned many varied skills, from sports through to singing. Here you began to be the wonderful creative beings that you will one day fulfil! You have begun to form opinions and learned how to behave towards each other. You have formed friendships that, hopefully, will continue for the rest of your lives.
Oakman Lions, You have been excellent students and we are sorry to see you leave. Yet we know that it is in the nature of things for you to grow up and to move on. We hope that you will remember your years here fondly and that you remember your teachers equally fondly.
Today, I give you the same blessing as Christopher Columbus was undoubtedly given many
years ago when he set sail to discover a new world. May your seas be calm seas, may the wind that fills your sails be a following wind and
may God bless each one of you on your voyage through life.”
We are on our last little stretch here of Young 5s! Just a few more days left! I am so proud of my amazing little students!
Tomorrow we will meet at Oakman for a joyous celebration for the graduating 5th Graders!!! Way to go graduates!!! 5th graders and their families will line up in the car parade at 9:30 AM. Then…at 10:30…the rest of the grades, including Young 5s, will line up in their cars for the car parade to wave goodbye and join this celebration! Please plan on participating. You can decorate your cars if you choose to!
Thank you for sending the adorable videos of your children doing this learning review!

Lesson 1
The goal of this lesson is for the children to say the letter and sound for Gg and Bb as well as practice writing the letters!
The goal of this lesson is for the children to make a personal connection to the story “It’s Ok to Be Different” by Todd Parr. It is important that we recognize and have a heart of acceptance for the differences we all have. The children can listen to Todd Parr reading his story and then view the video of Greenly and I!
Click here to view Todd Parr reading!

They really have grown so very much this year! They are super stars!!!
