What we did today 9/16

Hello Kindergarten Families!

We had a super fun Friday!

We began our day watching a magic show that also taught us about core character values. Your child has a coupon in their folder to watch the magician at his show on Sunday.

This week we practiced recognizing and writing the numbers 0-10. Please continue this work over the weekend along with counting to 100.

Today we read The Three Billy Goats Gruff by Stephen Carpenter. Your child is bringing home puppets to practice re-telling the story. Please encourage your child to retell this story. There are many versions available of this story on you tube as well.

Please remember, your child’s reading bag contents are their homework. Please work with your child for at least 20 minutes each day on letter recognition, (beginning with the letters in their name), as well as writing their first and last names. Next week, we will introduce the letters Mm and Ss. There will be a handwriting test on these letters on Friday. Thank you!

Thank you for all you do!

Have a terrific last official weekend of the summer season! 🙂 Fall begins on September 21st!

Hello Families!

This has been a great start to our exciting Kindergarten year! I already love my new little kindergarten stars! Below you will find the welcome letter that will be sent home in your child’s folder soon.

Here it is! 🙂

Welcome to Kindergarten, your child’s first year at Miller Elementary! I am so excited to be your child’s teacher. This is my 6th year teaching Kindergarten. I love it!!! Your child will love coming to school to learn and play. I believe that children learn best when they are having fun. Your child is already very special to me. I am looking forward to watching them grow and succeed in Kindergarten. I am also a mom. I am blessed with a 15 year old son. I love him very much. I promise to treat your child with the same care and gentleness that I would want my own child’s teachers to display.

My expectations for each of my students are that they come to school ready to do their best. It is my goal that each one of my Kindergarten Stars grow academically by meeting challenging, yet attainable goals in reading, writing, and math as well as socially and emotionally through learning the core character values of respect for self and others, responsibility, and honesty. Most of all, it is my goal that each child leaves my care knowing that they are valued, loved, and very capable of achieving their goals.

Please feel free to contact me any time. We are partners in your child’s education. You play such an important role in your child’s success in school. Please encourage them every step of the way. I know I will! Thank you for the blessing and the privilege of allowing me to be your child’s Kindergarten teacher!

Sincerely,  Mrs. Mehrhof
