Hello Kindergarten Families!

Happy 13th week of kindergarten! I hope you all enjoyed this beautiful Thanksgiving Break! Please do not forget to help your child complete the homework that was sent home on Tuesday. Thank you!

I am looking forward to a fun-filled week of learning! I hope that each one of my amazing students were able to login and access Clever for awesome learning opportunities with MobyMax and MyON. Please see me if you have questions about Clever.

Homework: Practice letters, books, and sight words in your child’s reading bags. Write first name and last name, count to 100, write numbers 1-20. We have been noticing that books and items are missing from the reading bags we are sending home. Please help your child to put these items back in their reading bags when you are finished with them at home.

Please be sure your child comes to school wearing a jacket and gym shoes every day. Your child MUST bring a winter to school every day. The weather is getting very cold. Please label your child’s gloves, hats, and scarves with their name.

Spelling: Please help your child practice writing the following letter this week: Xx and Oo.  In addition, please help your child practice writing his/her first name. *The test will be on Friday!

  1. X
  2. x
  3. O
  4. o
  5. Your child’s first name and last name. Please be sure there are no backwards letters and that only the first letter in each part of the name is uppercase. The rest of the names should be lowercase. Recognizing and writing names are very important and will be practiced every day!

Ex. Ryan Smith    not…RYAN  or ryansmith.

Reading: This week we will continue to review narrative story elements, such as setting, characters, and plot. We will also practice re-telling with beginning, middle, and end. In addition, we will continue to work on identifying rhyming words!!! (ex. hat/cat, fish/dish) The children will also continue working on blending sounds to read a word. (ex. b-a-t blended reads bat) We are still practicing our independent Daily 5 time with Read to Self, Work on Writing, Word Work, and Listen to Reading. We will start to make personal connections to the stories we read. Please encourage your child to read their sight words and books from their reading bags each day! Please practice the sight words that have been sent home in your child’s reading bag.

Math: We will continue to practice recognizing and writing numbers 0-20 as well as representing the quantity the number represents. We will also continue to practice counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s. We will work on simple addition using pictures and objects. Please practice counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s each day!

Science: We will continue the unit on physical science called “Pushes and Pulls”. We will observe and discuss these two types of forces. We will explore how to use force to make objects move.

Social Studies:  We will continue a unit called “How do I get what I want?” We will continue to discuss the concepts of needs and wants as well as introduce the concepts of goods and services. (ex. a book is a good, a teacher is a service)

Writing: We will continue the unit on Opinion Writing. Opinion writing is writing that tells how one feels or what one thinks about a topic. We will practice writing our opinions as a reflection to the narrative stories that we read. (ex. I think the Little Red Hen should share her bread because it is nice to share.) We will work on using a period at the end of our sentences as well as finger spaces between words.

Thank you for all you do!!!

Hello Families!

I just wanted to take this time to again, say how very grateful I am to be your child’s teacher. Thank you for your encouraging words, support, and trust. Thank you for the work you do with your children at home. I am so very blessed to be a part of their lives. Everyday, I wake up and thank God for another opportunity to do a job that I truly love. I am so blessed to say that I love going to work. I love that I have a job that brings me so much joy and fulfillment. That joy is partly due to the smiling faces I see when walk into our classroom. I love the little stories they can’t wait to tell me, the adorable pictures they make for me, and the way they actually clap at my silly drawings! 🙂 Again, thank you! From the bottom of my heart, I wish you all a very blessed and happy Thanksgiving!

On a side note… please check your child’s folder for some homework I sent home. 🙂

Thank you for all you do!!!

Hello Families!

Thank you for coming to parent-teacher conferences! I was able to meet with each one of my amazing students’ families. Please never hesitate to contact me or see me if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s progress.

This week we practiced many things. 🙂

In reading, we practiced retelling a narrative story using the sentence stems;

In the beginning, In the middle, and At the end on of the story.

We also practiced telling our favorite part of the story using the sentence stem; “I liked when…”

In math, we practiced adding objects. We used cubes to add as we practiced saying the sum using the sentence stem, “The sum of ___ + ___=____

I encouraged the children to practice adding with objects at home. I told them to get a piece of paper, draw two big squares. They can place some pennies, buttons, cereal… on the squares and practicing finding the sum by adding with the objects.

We also practiced identifying needs and wants. If your child goes to the store with you, please encourage them to identify needs and wants while shopping.

This week we also practiced writing our opinions on different topics. Today, we wrote about our favorite fruit. 🙂 Please encourage your child to tell you their opinions and why they have that opinion. (I like___ because___.)

So….looking ahead to next week….

We will have a SUPER DUPER IMPORTANT kindergarten parent meeting at 9:00AM on TUESDAY. It will take place in our classroom. I look forward to seeing you.

There will be no school on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. 🙂

I will be sending home some homework and homework ideas for this time off of school. Each child will get new books in their reading bags as well. Please keep a look out for these.

Here are some pictures! Enjoy!

Thank you for all you do!!!
